Too small of starter signal wire?
Had my starter act up on me again today. All electrical connections were solid and getting power to both terminals on the starter. I could hear it drawing amps, fuel pump tone changed when trying to crank. But it wouldn’t turn the engine.
This happened after the engine bay was good and heat soaked, which I know can cause the starter to draw more amps. All I did was jump the starter signal terminal to the under hood fuse box and it clicked, then it started working again as normal.
I have a new 16ga wire going straight from my ignition switch to the starter signal terminal due to having similar issues with it last year.
Could it be that the wire is too small so it is not able to draw enough amps for the starter solenoid when it gets hot? I noticed the oem wire was quite a bit larger, like 10ga.

Re: Too small of starter signal wire?
sounds to me like you already know the answer to your question bro
yup need a bigger wire so you dont get that over heating problem
alot of people when they do this the smaller qauge wires work just fine but what they dont notice is that every time
they start the car is that wire gets hot and with time it just burns out and get damaged even thou it looks new still
this is something i found out years ago when i would try to fix the wiring on headphones beleave it or not ^_-

Re: Too small of starter signal wire?
Okay thanks for confirming that. I don’t know much about electrical, so wasn’t sure if too small a wire could cause this issue or not.
I got some 12ga which looks to match the oem wire size, and will run it straight from the ignition switch black/white wire to the starter.
