Default Starting problems?

My car loves to start sometimes.

Does anyone know what the starter needs, voltage wise, to crank the engine. I am turning the key and nothing is happening, even though it is reading 12.3v on my gauge. Now, most of the time, 8 out of 10, it doesn't do this.

Could it be my starter going bad? It doesn't "click, click, click". Just nothing happens?

Anyone be able to help, I am driving cross country on Friday, and would love for my car to be able to start, every time, without kickstarting.

Does it click once when you turn your Key? If so, the copper contact point inside the starter is worn out.
