i just tore apart the perfectly good non DPFI TPS sensor and the internals look pretty simple so far. Will post pictures, but I plan on tearing open my stock one and swapping the little circuit board from the new one to the stock one. It looks pretty simple so far. What are some good image hosting sites? I haven't actively posted on car forums in about 5 years and my government computer blocks a lot of stuff.

I took a dremel and cut the lid off the top. I just followed the seam and made sure not to cut too deep, which was good because the circuit board sits flush with the seam.

I then took a soldering iron and heated up the metal tangs while gently pulling to de-solder them.

Here's how it looks inside. Those two tangs on that circular part are actually tiny wire brushes that make contact with the circuit board. I'm thinking the only things that could go bad would be those small wire brushes fraying, a cracked/burnt/damaged circuit board or bad connections on those three soldered connections. I imagine because the DPFI throttle/TPS turns in the opposite direction than the newer TPS, that they are complete mirror opposites. So swapping the circle part with the wire brushes wouldn't be possible. However, since the circuit board is symmetrical, if I just use the board/circuitry part of it into my original TPS, I shouldn't have to do any wire swapping, just solder and be done. More to come later after I disassemble my original TPS..

Why these fail is simple. A build up of carbon on the small disc inside the pot, this caused the contacts to be intermittent. What I have done in the past is carefully drill a small hole into the case - about 1/8" deep - just to enter the case. Then sprayed it with contact cleaner.
