Please help a beginner.... Crankshaft question...

Alright so I have a few things planned that I would like to do to my rex, I have done a few basic mechanical tasks (Changing fuel filter, Installing new rear struts, brake pads, some wiring, etc...) and I am heading towards my timing belt.

I want to check the timing of my rex and I am supposed to set the crank pulley to TDC, supposedly there is a mark on the crank pulley and the lower timing belt cover to align.
-My question is do I turn the crank shaft by hand?
-If so what way do I rotate it, and if I rotate the opposite way is it going to screw it up?
-Whats the worse thing that cam happen rotating the crank manually?

Thanks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif

Yes, by hand.

Rotate the crank the same way the wheels would turn if the car was rolling forward.

Finding the mark(s) on the crank pulley is gonna be tough to the untrained eye,

look closely.

Thanks man, now does anyone know if there is anyway I can hurt the engine doing this... with my luck I will end up doing something wrong and f**king my whole engine up.

You know, normally I'd have some great witty comment explaining how it would be next to impossible to screw up the engine, but I'm taking an off day.

"If everything is mechanically fine, nothing will happen unless you leave the car in gear with the parking brake off and manage to run your own ass over."

is it a d-series motor? this is what you want:

if you use a brush and some soapy water, you might find the painted marks on the crank pulley more easily. comes in handy with timing the distributor https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif
