Re: New to the Honda game.
Is anybody else confused by the DOHC/VTEC sticker? I'm no expert but I think the B18b1 is non-VTEC from a US Integra LS.
Anyways, you could get a VTEC head put on but From what I know: Had Co-worker running a B18b1 swap with some bolt-ons and it was strong all day long and stupid reliable
From what I have read: B18b1 has a low Rod to Stroke ratio which means they aren't built to be high revving engines(they redline at 6800 stock), instead they make power with larger displacement at lower RPMs. VTEC is for making more power at high RPMs (usually above 5200) by increasing valve opening. It doesn't do much if engaged below 5000 because valve opening is sufficient to make power in the lower RPM ranges. Again just what I've read, I'm not an engineer nor an engine builder...yet

Re: New to the Honda game.
As simple as Ls.Vtec sounds, it's quite complicated, as the other guy said can be unreliable if not done right, there's a reason Honda didn't produce the "ls/Vtec" themselves, but in a nutshell it's basically putting a Vtec head on a non vtec block, why not just get a GSR? Ls has a longer stroke which will yield higher compression, but the longer stroke would actually be useful if you're using higher compression pistons, that's why when most people build ls vtec they have to spend a lot of money and to actually BUILD it than just putting the head to the block and call it done, with that money you could probably get a b16b or an itr swap, then again it's all personal preference. Flame me all you want idgaf. If you'd like to read more about it here's a link, it's a great write up and really useful

Why you shouldn't do LSvtec:
