Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
i had to use a torch to heat it up but you can't heat it up to much you'll ruin your wheel bearing.....i had to take the whole spindle off and take it to tech to use the monster snap on impact came right off

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
I had the same problem when i did my swap so i used the torch, impact gun and a impact hammer and nothing, so i ended up the torch a chisel and cut the nut in half once i was done i discovered that it was threaded in a wrong way.Good luck.

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
did you make sure you un spiked the nut? if you look closly at the nut it should be pinched/ spiked/ hammered into a groove to lock the nut. let me see if i can find a pic....
it's not the best shot, but if you look at the nut. the right side of the nut. it's pinched in towards the axle. make sure that you un pinch this or no matter what you to, you won't be able to un screw the nut. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...uh/brakes6.jpg oh, and don't forget to pinch the nut back on. don't want to risk the nut backing off. |

Beat me to it. I was going to suggest that. Yes, make sure your nut is de-pinched. The whole reason behind that is to keep it from backing off.
it's funny to see people try to take off there axle for the first time and are like, what the hell? why can't i take this stupid nut off????? just need to look closely and there you go, it's off. |

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
make sure it's de-pinched all the way, even a little bit will hold it back.
and if it's still that bad, try some PB blaster, and some heat. if that don't work, try and find a shop that has a 1" impact gun. yes 1". that'll take off anything, period. |
Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
I've always gotten them off with just a 1/2" breaker bar. Put it on the nut and just jump on it haha. Hasn't failed me ever.

That's why i love my 1/2 inch drive Ingersol Rand Titanium impact. Sucka gots some torque. There isn't much that it won't get off. Except for our harmonic balancer bolts. I need a 3/4 inch gun for that. Even more torque.

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
I had one hell of a time on my EK the other day. Broke my 1/2", another 1/2" extension and tried a 3/4" drive plus 5-6ft of leverage could not get it off!! I was afraid I was going to break the gears in the tranny so I gave up. It's not always due to inexperience, sometimes they can be extremely diffcult to get off!! (espeicially if you don't have a real torch)
Ended up calling a friend who works for a truck tire repair shop. His service truck has a 1" gun. If you can drive the car I suggest you pull up to a shop that works on big trucks, cranes, heavy machinery etc and get the nut cracked loose. People are always happy to show off the power of a 1" gun if you ask nicely ;) |
Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
It's also a lot harder to get bolts and nuts off if you life up north. I was born and raised in Dayton, Oh., and i lived in Pa. for a year. I got a good taste of rustiness when i worked at a repair shop, there. It sucked. I hate rusty northern cars. Glad i moved down south. Rust free.

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
The quality of an impact gun REALLY matters. A $140 compressor/impact gun isn't going to take off shit. My gun alone cost me almost $400.

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
This is true. That's why i said i love my 1/2 inch drive Ingersol Rand titanium. It's the shizz.

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
I solved it 1/2 drive and 5ft steel "handle extension" I picked up for $3.00 from a metal scrap yard. Worked perfectly! ;-)

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
i've never had to depinch my nuts ;)....and they were pinched as much aas they could be

Re: Need Help! ASAP crazy axle nut!!
shit i think i'd just cut it off w a cut off wheel if i couldn't get it. then next time i go to install the new one i'd use just a dab of anti seize on the threads to keep the rust away.
