I have an 89 crx si. The motor is all stock. I got the car cheap because it had problems. I was told it had a blown headgasket. I put a new head gasket in it timing belt water pump ect..... As far as i know the timing was never right since i did the head gasket. It pulled as good as my frineds 91 si but the motor was always noisy.

For the past 2 weeks when i start the car it idle's rough and sometimes stalls. If you rev the motor a couple times it goes away or if you start to drive it it goes away. When you drive the car it runs good just noisy.

Today i went into Wawa and when i came out and started the car it left out a huge puff of white smoke along with the ruff idle. Does anybody know what could be wrong? Blown head gasket again? Why? Any help would be great. Also when i put the new headgasket in i had the head decked to make sure it wasn't warped. All this was done about 6000k miles ago.

sounds like the head gasket to me... did you install it properly?? like retorquing the head bolts and such?

Retorqing the head bolts? I torqed them when i put it on but was i supposed to go back and re torq it after a certain # of miles or something?

u shouldve rechecked the torque after the 1st time you started it with the new head gasket

The head gasket may have not sealed correctly, do a compression check or leak down test.

How important is it to replace the head bolts when you do a head gasket? What should my compression be at? Thanks for the replies.
