my boosted ef build
Hey guys, just thought i would share my build in case anyone is interested. The motor will be a d16 stroker with a 3 stage vtec head fed by a holset h1c, which will be going into a 91 si hatch. The car will be getting some rust repair and a shaved/tucked bay followed by a fresh coat of cyber grey metallic from the new corvette. I've got a ways to go on it, but I'll start out with some pics of what I've gotten done so far and if you guys like it I'll update as things progress.
D16z6 block, k1 rods, ycp teflon coated vitaras, d17 crank, acl bearings
These rods were hard to track down, but I didn't want to buy crowers or modify d16 rods
I'm using a cx tranny for the low gearing(i'll touch on that more later), freshly rebuilt with carbon lined synchros
I've got a ton of wiring left to do for the tuck, but i do have the gel cell pack mostly done, just needs a tie down.
That's about where I'm at, i'll snap some pics off the motor tomorrow now that i have the head on. If you guys have any questions about the build just ask, i know i left out a lot of details but i'll fill in all the gaps as the car comes along.

i wanted something that would fit in the spare tire area and have plenty of juice, the gel cells fit the bill and weren't too expensive. it's also nice to have a sealed battery when it's inside the car.

i'm running dsm 450's and street tuning on crome pro so i probably won't go over 250 or so. if i get bored with it i can always switch to e85 and throw in bigger injectors to up the power.

Re: my boosted ef build
I'm using a d17 oil pan because I prefer the aluminum pans over steel, which means I had to modify the baffle for the d16 block dipstick location. It also needed a good cleaning because it came from a motor with a spun bearing.
I don't want to pay the big bucks for AN fittings for my breather and oil drain line so I'm doing it the hillbilly way with some brass fittings from the hardware store.
Here's a little mockup that shows my fleabay manifold that I modified. I'm keeping the AC so I had to cut the flange off and clock it to clear the compressor and I also changed the wastegate flange diameter and location. These manifolds are pretty notorious for cracking because of the thin wall tubing they use, so I bought some 304 stainless tubing and flat stock to build braces. The extra support should eliminate most of the vibrations and keep it from splitting at the welds.

Wow. cant wait to see it run.
I cant say I agree with the CX trans though. Why not just use the CX 5th?
And why do you prefer the Alum. pans to the steel ones?

swapping 5th gear wouldn't do anything, the final drive is what makes the cx/vx trans different. i'm not sure why i like the alum pans more, i just always have
