panty dropper nooo, i never called her man haha
the looks i get when im towing cars home is always so funny
the little sedan pulling a s10 or impala or something
a few months ago i was on a highway towing a 2012 jetta i bought at the action
i was going about 60 ish mph and there was this guy that was following me in his minivan and he had his phone out taking video
of me pulling the jetta i guess hes never seen a car towing another before it was funny
it was like his first time seeing a naked girl his eyes just couldnt look at anything else haha

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
i wish i had pictures of the towing in action
but now you know in the future that if you ever want to go get a broken car
you can do it with your car
all it take is a little know how and getting over the fear really
my old crx had a 80 hp d15b7 in it when i towed the eg

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
yea dude and the crx didnt struggle to pull it either
it was all smooth sailing but
the eg was only a shell when i towed it "no motor or trans "
but even if it did have a motor in it
it wouldnt of changed anything i still would of towed it
now a little advice if you plan on doing something like this
remember how i said that i never show the little things
heres one of those little things but this is very important when towing
you dont want your wheels falling off because of the wheel bearings not being locked in
so if its a shell your towing youll need two cv axle peaces like this one on each wheel
with the 32mm nuts
this is a ek one i have
and i cut it a few years back
but you need this end on the hubs
now if you are towing a AUTOMATIC car a long distance OVER 20 MILES you do have to remove an axle only one
to keep the trans from overheating on you while the cars being towed
so on the axle you remove you use the axle peace with the nut to lock the wheel bearing in place
and if your a towing geek like me
you also use this one
the other end of the junk axle you took apart
to plug the hole in the trans so you wont loose any fluid on the drive home
my two peaces are cut only because i wanted to save weight on my little towing bag i take when im going to do something like this but they dont have to be cut
i towed the eg 6 hours but thats nothing
my sedan the one your seeing on this build thread i towed from echo park california to lincoln ne where i live
1500 miles and a good 20 or so hour drive but my sedan RAN so to keep the trans from overheating i just left the civic turned on and running while i towed it with my old crv if the car runs the fans well kick on and keep the cars trans from overheating but if it doesnt run you must remover an axle

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
heres a throw back
this is my grandma back in 94 ish next to a datson that my dad took way south
this car was towed from washington dc to guatemala with the towbar method i use today
a 60 hour drive and 3 days of driving
you see on the front bumper support the two holes on the sides with the yellow paint to prevent rust
the picture shown is after the datson was wrecked but thats another story haha
sometimes when you go and buy a car and want to tow it home the way i do
sometimes the bumper support has the holes already and others you have to make them yourself
so take a drill and drill bit with your towing gear
today wasnt a update
i got off work early and went to my kids school and took a nap
and fiqured that i dont have alot of interior pics so why not
my $5 walmart broadway mirror
im 5foot 6inch tall
and in the back seat there is about 3 inches of leg room
speeking of leg i had to roll up the shorts and show some leg for this pic ^_-
my cars nick name is the rolls
stay tuned

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
alright its update time again
lets start with the problem and thats that my passenger side door panal rattles in the mornings
because it has some clips that are warn out
this is an easy fix
first thing i did was get some junkyard clips
i only got 4 just incase i brake some of the old ones when im taking everything apart, having spares is never a bad thing
but while im going to do this repair im also going to add this
this is 15mm sound deadener
to help quiet the noise levels from outside down
make the car sound like a newer car from the inside
in time i will do the whole car with the sound deadener but today it was only the passenger side doors
here you can see the problem with the old clips the plastic it just worn and doesnt hold anymore
theres two ways to fix this problem
ones spending money and buying new clips and two is free
lets go with free
this method works just as good
its just masking tape
clips hold just *** new
anyway on to the sound deadener
i made a little measuring method with tape so i can make my cut outs
one up and down and one side to side
measure it twice and stick it once
the roll i got was a 35 dollar roll with 25 sq ft
im sure that im going to need about 2 more rolls to finish the whole car
but thats going to wait till i get some days off from work
so on those days ill do sections at a time
so stay tuned

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
about time for an update on this work car build of mine
most car guys love getting new wheels
me i dont follow that crowd... well kinda
i think it was about time for a new look
and when you have steelies its easy to get one
so i picked up the 7th gen civics hubcaps
the ones that are the si wheels for the 6th gens
but in hubcap form
they have curb rash haha
but they were the only ones i could find
i took two months to get all 4
since there kinda beat up i fiqured id do my majic on them and rock em
sanded them down and preped them for a respray
the color choice is as stock as possible so im useing the
cast aluminum spray that every one has been spraying all over there engines lately
i gave them two coats
one light and one heavy and called it a day
i like the finished look
and there oem
now for these hubcaps im going to have to switch lugnuts
but im also thinking of moddifying my steel extended sickspeed ones but that idea is still in the air
its getting cold again theres ice on the cars in the morning now
but progress is still going on just a bit slower
stay tuned

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
told you there would be progress ^_^
today i had some free time
ive had blown front struts for a few months now
so i went out and ordered me some new kyb struts
made in japan
and are as close to oem as you can get without getting oem
start by removing the old
these were still the original ones
they lasted 27 years all i had to say was good job
try getting that many years of service from your aftermarket struts, its not gonna happen
anyway got the strut on the vice and clamped the spring down and removed the top hat
and yes the clamps WILL NOT grab onto the springs on both ends
so on the bottom they have to grab the strut
dont worry its perfectly fine and safe
just as long as you use hand tools only
no power or air tools the impact motion makes problems thats all im going to say
reverse the process on your new struts and your done
tightened everything up also installed my new hubcaps in the front only
and i must say i love the way they look ^_^
now my next little project will be to make use on my sickspeed extended lugnuts
but for the hubcaps to work the nuts have to have the washer on them
so im thinking of welding some on to the sickspeeds
or just hit the junkyard for some oem lugnuts witht he washers already on
well see.. i need to get that done to install the back hubcaps

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
as you guys know the last few months ive been working on operation " quiet this **** down"
as of yesterday the loudest part of the car was the exhaust so with a little help from the man chip
got me a universol converter with 2 inch inlet and outlet
put it where my cherrybomb was and moved my cherry bomb back but sadly the noise levels only got quieter by about 10 percent i was hoping for about 40
but it is quieter so its progress
when i was installing my hubcaps this morning i noticed that the rear wheels move way to much when tightening the lug nuts
and then i got a closer look and looks like my trailing arm bushings need replacing
thats gonna be fun
so next on the list is more sound deadener
trailing arm bushings
and ive been thinking of making me a extended shifter about 4 inches to make shifting a little more relaxing
so thats all coming soon
stay tuned

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
as promised heres the pics with the cat installed and the glasspack pulled back
looks like theres 2 glasspacks but the first one is hollow
i didnt get the car up on ramps just to take the exhuast pics
i had a leak near the rear wheel
and here you can see why
haha yea it came out in peaces
got it replaced with a new one
and still had some daylight left in the day so i did
some more sound deadening
i did the rear drivers side door
oh and all the leftover peaces i keep cutting out when im fitting the deadener
im putting on the trunk lid
just seems like the waste to be trowing them away
more updates soon
last night i found out my brake lights stopped working

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
Cool little car. Looks fairly clean from here. I had an 89 I bought for $800 way back in '01 that I put the exact same wheels and covers on. I miss that car. Everything on it worked fine including the R12 ac, I intended to keep it until I finished school and do a resto on it but it was taken out by an idiot driver before its time.
Don't use those lugs with factory wheels. You need ball seat lugs, not conical seat.

yea im really likeing the look of the hubcaps ^_^
spadam sounds like your talking about a kid you lost hehe
i know the feeling
when you put so much time into them they become more than just cars
yea the sickspeed lugnuts i sold to my cousin yesterday
and picked up the ball seat kind at the junkyard
the ones with the plastic washers built in i got all 16
took a while too because at the junkyards i go they remove all lugnuts but one off each wheel
so if you want the wheel its easier for you to remove
it took about 6 or 7 civics to get all 16

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
today was finding out why by brake lights dont turn on anymore
started with the 20 amp fuse thats under the hood the one for the brake lights only... its also the horn fuse thats why its under the hood and not
under the dash anyway it was blown
now... me im not a fan of just replacing fuses i like to find out why it blew
so i put in a new one and press the brake and it blows again right away
so now after a few tricks here and there i found the problem
sucks that it broke but awsome that i found the problem ^_^
so i took the tail light harness off and took it to the kitchen to do some sodering
the o2 sensor plug is what i used for my towing lights
its the left turn signal wire
todays repair is a free one because way back when i got my new tail lights i saved the harnesses from the old ones
not in the best shape but a little cleaning and shell work
so i got her sodered in place
i love it when there easy ^_^

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
time for another part of the build
this is my extended shifter project
this idea was to snag a stock shifter at the junk and add it to my short shifter thats in the car now
and just extend the hight because its too low
and if it was about 3 inches higher id be perfect
or at least i think it would
i was thinking of cutting up the shift **** and useing the nut inside and just welding it on the bottom of the shifter pipe
BUT
after cutting off the stock shift **** i found that theres no steel nut inside
just plastic threads
and so a trip to the hardwhere store to get some nuts
the thread pitch is 10mm 1.50
got 3 nuts and welded the first one on the bottom of the pipe after i cut it down to 2 1/2 inches from the line at the bottom of the threads
to the bottom of the pipe
and that was part one of my extended shifter life
put it on and drove for about a week
but after driving it and really getting a good feel for it
i felt i needed to mess with it some more
it was too high and also when in 2nd- 4th and reverse my arm would go too far back and i diddnt like it
so i felt it would be perfect if it was 1 inch lower
and also 1 inch forward
so on to part 2
give it a little tilt here
installed
total cost was 4 bucks for the shift **** i didnt use and a week of testing ^_-

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
Hey Marcos,
When you tow moderately heavy vehicles does braking become a problem? A friend of mine uses a unit that sits in the floor of the towed vehicle, takes signal from a brake controller in the tow vehicle and applies the brakes in the towed vehicle. I think its a unit used when vehicles are being towed by motorhomes called "brakebuddy". He can stop in an incredibly short distance while using this setup. He bought it off of one of the lists, just a thought.
Regards
Dave

He bought it off of one of the lists, just a thought.

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
you know ive seen those
but theres two reasons why i dont use em
first at this point in my driving life i dont feel like my towing skills can get any bitter, im very comfy going to speed limit when ever im towing
even if that speed limit is 75 mph going downhill on a mountian in the winter
ive learned to use engine braking along with the foot brake to a point that i can control both cars like a pro
my team mates as well
and second i just cant justify the price of the brake buddy they run around 1000 new and about 600 used
set up isnt a problem thou there really easy to hook up
i have used them in the past but they wernt mine
the heavy ist car or truck that i can tow with the sedan would have to be the ford ranger or chevy s10
anything bigger than that id drive and tow the sedan with it instead
todays update isnt really an update
just thought id show off my car ramps i modified a few years back
i made them 4 inches taller so when ever your under a car you can have plenty of room to work
enjoy
get a real good look at this picture
there made with 2x10 wood and up front the 1 foot section is held together with a long peace of rubber from an old mudflap
so they wont slid back on you when your trying to get a car up on them
that front peace of wood is also there so the hight wont be a problem with any car
and by that i mean front bumpers scraping on them

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
It took me a while to read everything.
I like the ingenuity going into this project.
This kind of build is interesting even if someone doesn't agree on what's being done, you saw things that could be improved and you figured out how to do it.
fyi, autozone sells cup holders similar to what you have up front, that are adjustable. Just a thought in case you have to replace them someday.

makes it easier to enjoy i think
and yea dude people not agreeing with my builds is nothing new
i just have a different style you could say
and thats just a result of my work life
i feel like because of it i can now build a more complete car
one that really can do it all, or at least thats what im going for
example one
back in 2005 i had a ek hatch with a k24 awd system from the honda element and now i feel in 2016 ish that that swap is just barely becoming a new thing
because of swap kits making everything so easy my system i cut out the element engine mount brackets and welded it to the ek frame to make it work and used a big hood scoop for the hood clearance
example tw0
back in 98-96 ish i was slammed with the massive camber on my wheels and the hks fart can mufflers and thats the thing now since 2014 to now ish
example three
i had the phone connection and autostart on my cars back in 99
i feel like things are just going in circles and in about 8 years or so youll see more builds like the one i have here or maybe im wrong
this build
what it has in its future as far as big things go is a right hand drive convertion that i have already
and a 90-91 crx si front end and then a fresh paint job and the color i want is honda Thunder grey metallic
but that stuff isnt going to come for a while i think
this is going to be one long thread haha one with like 30-50 pages
today was a good day so i dicided to wash the car inside and out
wash it so good that i even took a mothers claybar to it and smoothed everything out
enjoy
the main thing im trying to do with this build thou is show people that theres always a different way of doing things
and i show that way
stay tuned

Re: Marcos's new work car 90 sedan
I'll probably do the dash, but I like the sedan nose better. I've thought about doing it just because I have all the parts and not many people have done it.
