Manual steering rack crx si

I have a an 89 crx si and i think the steerign rack si shot beyond repair. I dont even feel safe driving it above 60 because it steers itself with the road and theres an inch of play in the steering. The car is not worht the 200+ $ for a new steering rack, but no junkyard has a 88-91 si. Can i just take the steering out of any other manual steering honda? Does anybody have experience with this? I want to rebuild the steering rack ,but this seems to be an unheard of concept for every person I've talked to and i haven't found anything except a stupid little white piece of plastic (rack end bushing)
It also seems to need suspension, I'm wondering if i shoudl call it quits with this car or not. It doesn't have rust but the body and interior needs tlc.

Have you replaced the inner and outer tie rods? The rack also has an adjustment bolt. Check out the FAQs for more info on these. Good luck!

The tie rods seem tight to me when i pull on them, but when i pull on the rack it has play and and makes some kinda click sound. A mechanic also had told me a few years ago that the rack was the problem.

I will try tightening the adjustment bolt even further, hopefully that will do something for it...
