I suspect the distributor. Is it oem or aftermarket??

A newly remanufactured distributor.

I think that is where your problem is. I had a rebuilt distributor on my dohc zc and had the same exact problem. I'm guessing something wasn't put together correctly. Had to widen the slots to get the timing down.

Try another dizzy, I'm willing to bet that it will fix the problem.

I will try that...

But why would it work properly the first time I had it all together, took the head off, put it all back together exactly how it was, and now suddenly it's wrong?

Not saying you're wrong, just asking why in less than a couple days it would go from "perfect" to broke.

Thanks.

But it wasn't fine, you said you had to retard the distributor all the way back to get correct timing. I've never had to do that unless something was wrong.

Yeah I'm trying to source a distributor so I don't have to buy one that may not fix the problem, and am not having luck with that.

No idea where to go from here.
