lower ball joint fits lca too loose ?
well i replaced a lower ball joint on my driver side front 90 Si hatch and it is the only ball joint i had this problem with after replacing. the threaded part stuck out bottom too far for castle nut to fit properly i had to put a washer to get nut to reach hole on stud ? is this a problem and can it be drive that way as long as it is tight to spec? i have searched maybe i am not looking under right terms i am also wanting to know this for when i get DA front knuckles to check the top ball joint hole as well thank you

Re: lower ball joint fits lca too loose ?
Raising this old thread.. I have the same problem.. I have an old project civic -88 hatch and I THINK I have m factory extended ball joint.i donīt remember.. It could be a hard race set too.
Me too.. I also have to much thread under the control arm so the castle nut needs to be spaced out with washers so I can lock it.. If i donīt use a washer or two under the nut I have to turn the nut som far so the hols in the the threaded part is to far away from the nut.. Also this crushes the dust boot pulling it too tight against the LCA.. My theory is that the tappers are different for the newer civics since the ball joints are speced for civic 88-00.
Buddy-club has two different part numbers for civic/crx and the civic 92-00 but everywhere I have tried to order the one for the civic/crx they told me it is the same as for the 92-00
Anyone have more imput on this..? Anyone else fitted the 92-00 civic balljoints to their civic/crx 88-91

have you tried going to a store or dealer, asking for a EF and EG balljoint and comparing?
i've never run into this issue because ive always gotten the correct, and high quality ball joint.

I would deffinitely go for oem ones if I didnīt want the extended roll center adjusters.
It seems to be hard race ball joints I have trouble with.
m factory
hard race
buddy club
To me those brands should be decent stuff..
It is not possible where I live to check for that old parts even if I had a dealer around here. . I have checked before on used oem parts but it is not easy to messure with the balljoints mounted.. Also we have the civic/crx vt here in europe with stock b16 motor and one of my customers back when I had a bussiness complained about the same thing with m factory joints on thouse.. Thouse cars are alot different on alot of things and I canīt use that car as a reference since it might be using a special balljoint.. I doubt it though. Back then I messured alot and could not find a difference though.. That is why I want to know other peoples experiances on the US versions of the civic/crx 88-91 and extended ball joints or roll center adjusters...

Re: lower ball joint fits lca too loose ?
I found the old spindles with stock balljoints so I could compare.. I got from a civic -92 and a civic -88. The ball joint is different.. I canīt see that the angle of the tapper is different but the small end on the eg is about 0,5mm smaller.. That is why it pulls the balljoint further into the hole in the LCA and crushes the boot. So if a roll center adjuster or extended ball joint or any other lower spindle ball joint for that matter is speced for civics 88-00.. donīt buy them.. Get one that is specific for civic crx 88-91. Hope buddy clubs is available now... They were all out last time I checked..
