JDM EF9 Climate control
Hi. I just bought this JDM EF9 Climate control and want to install it on my car, but i don't know if that can be done, or if someone has done it b4......
any help is appreciated.

good luck man.. my climate control just showed up for my CRX.. if i have any luck with it i will let you know!

Dont you guys need all the aircon pipework in the engine bay itself?.....or did your cars get aircon, and its just the control unit you are changing?

yeah, but what about using all the functions....?? i don't have heater, but i do have A/C. i need it to work with vent and defrost, those 2 i'm concerned...
i'll try to do it, but it looks that the JDM climate control has electrical functions to switch between vent and defrost, while USDM one is cable operated....

yea the EF9 is cable based... i just bought a 1991 Hatchback so i learned that.
However my CRX is electric (i believe) so im hoping to see how that goes. The CRX has heat and A/C so i'm not sure how it will go.
Not to ***** the thread too much but SpoonFedEF7, Does the auto part work at all?

probably you're right..... all i need is the CRX A/C connections, piping, etc...... since the Rex is all electric, it might work on my car........ now the question is, where the heck am i gonna get all that in my country??
i guess i should start looking for it!!!!!!

I hope that in your country your car is RHD. That JDM climate control won't work in a LHD car unless you intend to manufacture some expensive weird crap to make it work.

no the auto part doesn't work but as i said i took all my ac parts out so i didn't need it to work anyway. The only thing that works is the heater and the defrost but that is all i need to work

such as what? i got a whole bunch of wires with mine, and 3 motors, an amplifier and some other misc stuff
MR.RED'89.. my brother and i are gonna get working on it tonight (as long as it doesnt rain).. i will compare what i see on my rex to whats on my hatch and see what i come up with!

So you are going to get the selection buttons working, but are you going to get the climate control working? AFAIK you have to use the evap box from the JDM car to get the climate control to work. I haven't seen one working in a US car. Please take pics and draw up a schematic if you found a way to make it happen! Thanks!

If you need, i can send u the wiring connections of the JDM climate control...... i think i have them somewhere, and if you figure out a way to connect that climate control on the HB..... then your a god!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget there is also an external temp sensor out in front of the radiator (pink wire) and more
control electronics in the ICU in the underdash fusebox. I had to graft the JDM control
unit into the local version to get the brake check light function... lots of fun!

what do you mean wiring connection? like a diagram? or like actual wires? i got a bunch of wires with mine.. but if you have a connection diagram that would be awesome!
another question.. why do i/we need an external sensor? what is the purpose of that for the interior climate?? that doesnt make sense to me, but some clarification on that would be cool.. thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the way the JDM "climate control" works is the same way it works on American Luxo cars (cadillac, lincoln, etc.) And that is by computer control of the inside temp based on the outside temp. That's why there is a sensor on the outside of the car. On a "genuine climate control" equipped car you choose an actual tempreture number on a dial at the hvac controls and then hit the "auto" button, and the car and the computer choose how much or how little to mix the heater and A/C to achieve the set temp. I can't imagine the headaches involved in trying to get that to work in a car not equipped from the factory with it. Good Luck.
And on a civic it's gotta be nearly impossible. You have to convert all those manually operated "lever" controls to electrically operated computer controlled servos. I hope you are a wiring guru.

What if you take apart both your stock US climate control, and the JDM one. Take the AUTO WARM and COOL buttons out of the JDM one, switch them with the buttons from the US one and leave it at that? Since the AUTO WARM and COOL wont work anyways... Then just put the JDM one in your car...would that work?

sort of.. yea.. the buttons wouldnt work right, which is cool.. but it wouldn't work in a hatch, unless you still converted the "levers" to electric. it would be ok i guess in a CRX, but not a hatch.
i will investegate the outer sensor... but since this is an "old" system, would it still rely on that, or COULD it just rely on one sensor on the inside to keep adjusting the temp?
