Insight to ID of PL3 cable tranny needed ASAP
I am in the market for a PL3 89-91 Civic/CRX Si cable tranny. I have a seller that I am in the middle of making a deal with but he and I want to be 100% sure as to what tranny he has.
Here are the pics he has sent me:
Now, I have been referring to information found in this thread in order to properly identify PL3 transmissions: what to look for to identify si tranny?
Specifically within that thread, I have extracted the following things:
From the above, we can conclude 100% that the tranny is a 90-91 20 tooth clutch spline. Here is where we are stuck:
The PL3 stamp in the first photo reads "PL3/Axxx". According to the above information, any "PL3/Axxx" tranny is either a DX/HF/STD small bearing case tranny and not a PL3 Si cable tranny. I am not sure if by the gold sticker you could tell other wise, or any other markings on the tranny. Here is where I turn to you guys with insight on the subject.
From the above pics from seller, information and pics provided from above thread, could somebody please clarify which tranny he and I are dealing with here? If you could, I know we would both greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance for your time, input, and replies!

PL3/B000 = large bearing - SI/ZC
PL3/3000/6000/9000 = large bearing - SI/ZC
as for clutches, as long as you have a 90-91 flywheel it will use a 90-91 SI clutch. unless the trans is an '88(21 spline input shaft)
axles dont matter. all DX/HF/STD/SI axles share the same inner splines, only the outer splines are different
stamp should be right here

It's like this...
88/89 cable transmissions will have a L3-1 gold sticker..
90/91 cable transmissions will have a L3-2 gold sticker..

Re: Insight to ID of PL3 cable tranny needed ASAP
i(as the seller) would also like to know this as well. i recently tried calling synchrotech transmissions, but no answer. and since this is a D series transmission, this is a different ball game for me that i lost interest on and never picked up the knowledge on these transmissions like i did with b series.

If you pop out an axle seal you can measure the inner bearing surface on the diff.
40mm=si
35mm=non si

the info i posted above is the best way to tell them apart...i have had a couple trannys and that method of identification worked perfect.
other great way to tell if the tranny is still in the car is to take it on a cruise on the freeway in 5th gear...if your cruising at 65 mph at 2200 rpm then its a dx...if your at 3200 at the same speed then its a si tranny.

Re: Insight to ID of PL3 cable tranny needed ASAP
Big, according to the above rotation test I posted, sh!ft said it looks to be a HF tranny.
I am looking for a tranny to mate with a z6 for my dd ef. I drive some city majority highway. I know the HF would be better on gas but how much would it hurt the "power" of the z6? How much longer, or worse, would a HF tranny be w/ a z6 compared to a DX tranny?
