INFO on seats into a crx: Evo 9, recaro, buddy club

Hello guys and girls,
I just purchased Evo 9 seats and planning on installing them by either fabrication with my welder, or finding custom mounts. So far with custom mounts off ebay attached to the stock sliders it's not going to fit me (5"10 planning to go auto crossing with a helmet). My goal is to make it low as possible without cutting or sacrificing too much of the car, carpet, seats. I hope in the end this will be useful for anyone.

Btw for anyone who is planning to install other seats:
1. ebay Recaros style reclining seats are ok for driving without a helmet
2. tom motorsport Recaro spg style carbon fiber bucket seat even without sliders and lowest position on side mounts sits high.
3. f1spec buddy club style fiberglass sits low with side mounts and sliders, awesome seats but kinda ugly compared to the others seats.
4. Stock crx si seats sits the lowest out of all of them but will definitely get torn up from usage.

I'll try to document everything that i've done for the evo 9 seats. and if anyone else would like to add to this topic just tell me and i will put into on this 1st section so its easy to see.

So right now its 530 AM, worked on the seat for a little bit and day dreamed for a long a$$ time, but i took off the rails and mounts to see what kinda of height i can get. 2.5inchs made a big difference.

Del Sol Si seats are the lowest actually, and fit nicely.

Tools needed for today
1) 25 ceramic disk
2) 16 gauge sheet metal
3) spot weld cutter
4) nuts bolts washers
5) drill welder hammer
6) Balancing tool

Today i cutted out pieces of the original seat mounting points and to lower it. Each mounting point should be done one at a time and welded in place and then move on to the next point. I got 2 mounts done and maybe next week or so, i get the other two because they are harder to make.

My expertise level in doing this is about medium.

sounds like sarcasm, but I'm going to weld some more around it. I'm pretty sure my welds penetrated both metals.

im actually looking into putting the evo 9 seats into my ef hatch, this is quit a large help because i am quite concerned about the height of the seat and the head room that i will have after the install.

just to clarify everything for me and others:
what seat mounts are you using for each seat?
how much head room do you have with each seat?
how much head room do you have with the stock seat?
possibly a leg room measurement if at all possible?

these are the current things that i am worried about with a evo 9 seat in my ef hatch, being 6'2'' really limits my options for clearance reasons
if you could give us a little more info this will probably be the most useful thing i have seen in the EF forum for a long time

I'm used OBX seat mounts from ebay for the bucket seats with side mounts. I never had sliders, so it was incapable of adjusting for others. Since these seats are side mounted even with sliders, a person that is 6"2 should be capable enough to adjust and sit comfortably. Because i don't have some of these seats anymore I'm going to estimate, Recaro style spg had about 4.5 inches. Buddy club style at its second lowest position had about 7inches, if your really concerned about height and running into installation difficulties, I would pick these seats. Leg room is not a problem for bucket seats because the shell is very thin allowing more space to move the seat back

The evo 9 seat is on its stock sliders. First I test fitted it on the obx mounts with stock sliders, concluding it was too high as seen in the picture above where it sits high as the roll bar, it left about 4 inches of head room. After taking off the obx mounts and just tossing them on the car seat mounting points there was about 7.5 inches. Before actually installing them in the car, about 1inch chunk of the front seat mount was cut and welded new mounting points, so it sits lower giving about 6 inches. If i move the seat all the way back, i have about half way from tippy toeing it.

Because i had stock seats a long time ago, i don't remember what were the clearances but they were very low and provided lots of leg room.

This information was provided from the best of my knowledge, and i hope it was helpful as much as possible.
