If engine stalls should CEL come on? Idle issues, too.
Not sure where to begin... but I've been searching for a solution in these forums for about a month - tried everything - and now I'm stumped.
d16a6 stock.
Just replaced clutch/flywheel and exhaust.
Now have idle issues.
Cleaned IACV, FITV, replaced PCV valve (found it broke).
Tested brakes and booster - they seem fine.
No vacum leaks that I can find.
Turn key get 2 second CEL boot up then light turns off. Starts fine. Fast idle warm up works fine.
After warmed up is when problem starts...
Idle will hunt just a little - maybe 100 RPMs.
When fully warmed up engine will bog down and stall while stopping (i.e. pulling up to a light).
If sitting in the driveway I can duplicate this: hold brake down, then release - engine will bog down and stall out.
Brakes feel great - no issues with booster or MC.
One thing I noticed however: when it stalls the CEL does NOT come on.
Also: if I unplug the IACV electrical connection the engine stalls - but NO CEL?!
Shouldn't it come on? It's like it doesn't *know* that it stalled??
It will restart right up no problem, too. So, I drive it like this.
Please... *any* ideas? No CELs - I have nothing to go on at all.
Otherwise engine seems to run well, proper idle, not rich or lean, good gas mileage, good power. No oil in plug tubes, newish plugs and wires (~15k miles). Battery is only 3 months old. Alternator is about 2 years old but tests fine. ELD seems to work when I turn the lights on. A/C is disconnected.

If you turn the key from off to ON(II), does the CEL turn on for 2 seconds? If not, check whether the CEL bulb is blown.
After the IACV is unplugged, does the LED on the ECU blink any codes?
