how much does a 4g63 weigh? with an iron block that thing must be heavy..

good work though. im glad to see a thread where someone actually did it rather than asking if it were possible.

So it is running fine?

Any major set backs besides Axles and mounts?

How about the shift linkage?

Modifications to the engine compartment?

Update on videos

the 1st one is a start up
http://members.planetwebdev.co...4.avi

Revving up/turbo woosh
http://members.planetwebdev.co...9.avi

I hope these bad boys work!
The motor runs like a champ. I had some early problems with stuck hydraulic valve lash adjusters but they were replaced and now it's much quieter. I don't think the swap weighs much more than the b18 that was in there before because the ride height is just about the same.

i give you much respect for trying this...

except i have to question the engine... why a 4g63? why not a 3sgte? better engine, more reliable...

either way, good luck!

Well, I finished my front x-member today. I will share some pics. Suspension done, I can drive it. I took it around the block 2 times tonight. There are small details to work out like the fact that the passanger axle keeps trying to pop out because the circlip is a lil jacked up. I need to bleed the clutch again because sometimes it's hard to get into gear. (yes, I did convert the car to a hydraulic clutch setup thanks user: 2point2) I also need to trim the small amount of hood support as well as if I had a b-series in there. I have the 4-wire O2 plugged in but I neglected to actually weld in the bung to the exhause....That too will be done tomorrow. I need to pick up a 2.5 mandrel bend tomorrow so I can fab up the MAF-to-turbo pipe. I need to trim whats left of the core support so I can run the 90 probe intercooler that I picked up and finish up the charge pipes. Things are really coming together and it's a relief to see a lot of hard work pay off.

~Alex

ps. it's cool that everyone isn't down with this idea. My goal was to be original and cost effective. Kam, I must say, I appreciate your comment, I know how rare(at least to me) that you're behind something. As an aside, I didn't think the 3sgte was any more reliable than the 4g63. What kind of power can a stock motor support?

Alex, glad to see that thing on the road bro!! You did do a nice job with the install man, very well done!! If anyone cant live without a 4g63, let Alex or I know, and we can get that harness made up for ya.

and those two things are what drive some of the greatest custom work.

If there's one thing I respect and ALWAYS support is do-it-yourself work... and if it's custom and isn't the hardest way to doing something or insanely unsafe (ie. fabbing your own strut brace when they are $20/ebay or "making" your own wheels)... i whole-heartedly support it.

Sometimes i disagree with people's choices... but it doesn't matter what I think, I just try to provide alternative suggestions. in this case... I hate mitsu, but if you got an engine for cheap/little hassel... go for it. if it's there, use it.

plus, i didn't even realize you were in Vegas until just now. If you need a hand, I'm always willing to help. I always got spare parts laying around as well as some crappy welding skills (and a welder to boot).

ps. I'd still rather see a 3sgte... ToyotaFanBoi I am.

i can appreciate what your doin here, its cool in a weird way. i just think its funny that youve taken the one thing honda has gotten right all these years and put in something that is just the opposite.....Reliability. Good luck with it, maybe if the motor isnt tryin to pull around 3200lbs it will survive longer.

6bolts will make some really good power stock. That thing should rip once you get it all done right. I just hope you dont break any mounts..

awesome job bro!! you took my two loves and put them together... i was a dsm freak until i got my '91 hatch... the only reason i took my hatch over a 1st gen dsm were reliability... and just to make it clear to everyone else- 4G63's are bulletproof, its stupid little **** that make them unreliable(sensors, vaccume lines, etc.)... this is the first crx ive seen this done in since that blue drag crx that had a 4G63 and was RWD a few years back... mad props bro!! keep up the good work

Nice work, and very intresting indeed. I'm not gonna be a hater, but i must say that engine is what makes it a true honda. Or thats what i think.

I think a lot of reasons dsms get the reliability issue coming up is because of poor maintenance, missing vaccuum lines which on a MAF car can cause real trouble and of course a BOV dumping to atmosphere. I will tell you that this motor is quite a bit more difficult to time than any other honda I've ever worked on. The haudraulic tensioner is a bitch, if there was a solid option available like the H22's I'd use it.
I also have a stock 90 si that is my daily that'll get over 44mpg highway with my si/hf 5th trans. This allows me the luxury to play. AWD has been tossed around quite a bit around here. It's tempting but I think I'll have to practice with my roommates 95 4-door mirage 1st. We put a 4g in there last october and he's about to put his turbo on thats been sitting around almost since day one.
