Yeah, if he was near ANY of my families cars, I would shoot him lol I would NEVEr endanger ANYONE. When I was working at Ford it was Gray Torque stick (95-100 Ft lbs) and then checking it with a torque wrench. I made sure EVERY car was safe before leaving our shop. the last guy who did my job fawked up and sent one guy home with a tire just "snugged" and it ended up snapping all but 1 lug stud.

So you can have some 'WHY' here.
The thread pattern and material determines the torque.
It's engineering and I'm not going to type out formulas for you.
You need to know the following:
- friction factor
- diameter of the fasteners
- bolt tension
Most every car is 80lbs torque. A little more or less isn't going to hurt.
Different materials will affect friction factor.

if you have warped rotors your steering wheel will shake a tad bit, and youll feel the car have spot that feels like its getting more friction

Re: How tight to tighten lug nuts on wheels??
this an invest in a good decent torque wrench i will never torque someones wheels without it(if i am working on buddy's car ill make him do it) because if the wheels fall off then i do not want to be responsible for it.
it is ok to use a torque stick as long as you regulate the gun with the stick and then follow up with a torque wrench.
remember if the studs have different torque there is a possibility that the ones with less torque might make themselves loose that is why it is important that almost all the lugs be within a certain amount of torque
ps safety first kids you can replace a vehicle but you cannot replace a human anything
