Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
well i was told it was a 1994 d16z6 intake manifold and a obdo ls throttle body idk the year for it though .. but i put a new bolt on there and im still havign the idle problem. the last thing i can think of is either i just need a new iacv or i have a coolant leak

I would go over all your vacuum connections and tb to manifold gasket.

k so just undo them and run the left side to the nipple that point down and the hose from the block on the right to the nipple that points out?

Cleaning your IACV properly will also solve the "reving" while shifting. Where the iacv keeps the revs up between shifts because it thinks the car is stalling

I would advise that you actually bolt down your fuel rail too.

yeah i just havent had the time to properly clean it .. i took it off and used some qtips and water to get most the black junk off the screen and other hole and also used a small flathead to scratch some off the screen .. but havent used brake or throttle body cleaner yet because i havent been to the store or anything..

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
what do you mean actually bolt down my fuel rail .. i looked at it this morning when i changed the o-rings and it is bolted down .. it only has 3 bolts that hold it on .... brb i'll run out and look at it really quick .. yeah i just double check it and it only has 3 bolts to hold it down with. and that one hose from the bloack is to short to reach that nipple so i will have to get some hoses before i can change that
the bolts werent on it in the pic because i was in the process of taking it off to change the o-rings

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
So, anybody out there know enough about the old DPFI systems to help me figure out why my car doesn't seem to be coming down off the fast idle/cold start circuit until the car has been running for 20 min? I'm at 1750 when the car starts, and I rarely drive far enough (I mostly go to/from work, about 9 miles and 12-14 minutes) to get the idle below 1000-1100.
I've checked and nothing is sticking or binding, no vacuum lines appear to be cracked or disconnected. But that's about as far as I've got.

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
i just thought about this .. since my car doesnt have a fitv ... shouldi block off the whole in the throttle body .. cause i dont really see why there would be a hole there if it doesnt have one ... so i began to think about it and maybe thought since there was a hole maybe air is comming out of it somehow ... idk it it would or not but its just something i thought about .. and i dont wanna block the hole off if it will mess up my car while im driving ... so let me know what your opinion on that is ... thanks

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
ok i cleaned my iacv with some carb cleaner and fixed those 2 hoses so they run to the throttle bady but still no luck .. i ran fine for a lil bit but then back to the problem but not as bad as it was ... so i unplugged my throttle angle sensor and it runs perfect .. idles at about 1300rpms ... idk if thats because my cams or not but i have the adjuster screw tightened all the way .. and it doenst surge anymore .. does that mean the sensor is bad ..if so how do i go about replcing that ... and is it safe for me to driv with it unplugged at the moment ... because it runs good just idles hgih with no surge .... plese let me know because i gotta start work next week and dont have the money to buy any parts right now .. so will i be fine to drive it with the throottle adjuster sensor unplugged .. thanks

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
drove the car with the throttle angle sensor undone for maybe 10mins then it started to mess up .. so i plugged it back up drove myabe 10more mins ..let the car sit for about 7hrs then drove home around 11:00 tonight ... car didnt idle funny at all .. kinda when i first cranked it but none on the ride home .. first time the car has ever done it .. any suggestions why that might be .. would it of been by clening the iacv it just took it awhile to notice or something?

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
so you say that you have the adjuster screw tightened all the way? if it still idles with it tightened all the way, you have a vacuum leak. to see if you have a vacuum leak while the car is warm, take off your intake and cover the top hole with your finger and the engine should die right away. if it doesnt, you have a vacuum leak.

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
yeah it does die if i cover that hole ... so idk what to do ... it seems to only do the idle surge when its cold outside though .... doesnt really happen much when its warm out ... but other than covering that hole how would i tell for a vaccum leak

Damn, I should have looked a little further on this issue before creating a whole new damn thread.... Is this FITV on all variants of the d16's? I have a ZC sohc and I don't remember seeing this thing?
ON EDIT: Why is this not a sticky?? Admins??

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
aight after cleanning the iacv and bleeding my coolant lines .. and spraying some carb cleaner in my TB my car runs better but still has idle surge everynow and then .... i read that a bad pcv vavle could cause this also .. so i was wondering how i would check this ... because remember i had a leaking injector well it leaked gas onto where the top pcv hose plugs into ... but isnt there a bottom hose i have to take off also ... i think i might have gotten gas in the hose or somethign .. idk just wanna know how to take off w/e i need to .... thanks

The way I have been told to always check the PCV valve is to shake it and if it rattles it is probably still good. A pretty ghetto way of checking it but I just thought it might help you a little with your problem.

i just replaced my pcv yesterday. when i took mine out there was a crap ton of gunk and grime in the bottom so i sprayed a bunch of throttle body in there.

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
My CRX must have a much older PGM-FI setup because I do not have the lower hole in the TB. I've had to rig something up myself to solve idle issues. Right now I'm heading off to Honda to get the little figure 8 gasket for the IACV.

OMG ! Thank You for the excellent writeup..... I have lived with this problem sooooo long, I did the hoses and the coolant bleed and the tps sensor and the cleaning of iac. i even went to a couple garages NO help. A guy at napa said the same thing to plug the bottom venturi hole and it idled down fine. I am going to check this white plate spoke of, thanks again I will repost to let You know if you are a God...... btw what an annoying problem.

Re: How to fix your idleing woes! FITV IACV
Great post. I tried cleaning my IACV twice and pretty much just gave up before the winter and drove with the TPS sensor unplugged to keep the idle constant. Got some warm weather this weekend, stumbled onto this thread.... and now I've got a great idle with my TPS plugged back in. Excellent write up. I ended up just taking out the FITV so I could clean it at the same time. Thanks a bunch!
