Default which is best?, Y1 or J1

Ive heard from many that the y1 tranny for the b16 is the best, while some are saying the j1 is the most wanted. Both are said to have close gears comparable to the type r tranny, some saying the j1 is closer. I have two y1's laying around and dont know whether to use them. Im building a b16 for n/a specs. any help would be appreciated.

They all have fast gears and arent that far apart ratio wise. Y1 will cost more for axles as they have to be custom made to work right (86-89 teg with sir or 90-93 inner joints).

no custom axles are needed with the Y1....it only applies if you use Y1 intermideate shaft that is when you will need the hybrid axles....but if you use 90-3 integra half-shaft/intermideate shaft you can use the axles as well...

Okay, I just got a b16a with a J1 tranny recently and since it's not in my ef yet, I decided to look up the specs on it.... here we go, the J1 also the S1 jdm trannys have the EXACT same ratios as the 98 spec Civic type R and 96 spec Integra type R. The 98 spec integra type R has the same 1st thru 3rd, but the 4th, 5th, and final drive ratios are slightly different. Crazy

so could someone explain to me, why most resources say the y1 is most desirable, and not the others. BY the way your input is most appreciated, especially the info on the half shaft, becuase i have a jdm one!

most desirable tranny for N/A setup is a JDM YS1 with LSD....next is S1, then J1 then Y1 (which also sometimes comes with LSD)

most peeps, say Y1 becuase of the LSD...the gear ratios are tight but 4.266FD sucks

read here about the axles: http://www.hasport.com/B16axles.htm

I have a Y1 w/LSD.The synchros are going,so I'm shopping for another tranny, preferably a J1 or S1,for the lower gears and F.D.Here's my question-does anybody know for sure whether my LSD will fit in a J1 or S1?will I be able to keep theJ1/S1 F.D. of 4.400 or will the Y1 F.D. of 4.266 have to be used? Thanks.Oh yeah, the only reason I didn't mention the YS1 is cause I'm almost sure my LSD won't fit(w/o modification)and neither will my almost new H.C. Racing clutch that I just spent almost $400 for....different input shaft diameter/spline count.Thanks.
