How can you tell if you have an Si tranny AND where to get it rebuilt?

First part of ??? I bought an "Si" tranny for my d16a6 and want to make sure what year and to make sure it is an "Si" tranny. What marks do I look for?

Second, I do not know the condition it is in. The guy said it was in okay condition but I want to do it right and get it rebuilt before I put it in the car. Is there any reputable shop anywhere from the Bay area to Sacramento that can rebuilt my transmission? Also what price am I looking at for the rebuild alone?

Thanks

so what if you really dont have the tranny appart from the engine, and you are still trying to find out what kind of tranny it is. ?

Tippyman 03-15-2006 04:40 PM

There should be a stamp on it...

Im with you...there should be a stamp on the tranny. I remember a while back there was a website about d16a6's and now it's gone. It had the stampings on there.

For my next ??? where did you guys get your trannies rebuilt and for how much am i looking at?

Thanks all

Re: (way2much)

Your screen name is a clue to cost. IF you have Howard Engineering do one-it will be over $1000. IF you get one fromt he dealership-expect the same or more. If you can find an independent Honda tech-who really knows what he/she is doing expect under $1000-if you bring it to the shop. I was quoted ~$500 to do an overhaul and LSD install. This assumed all they would do were the bearings. Major parts are extra (synchros and gears).
The advantage of the first 2 choices is a warranty. Otherwise, find one from salvage or option 2. I used option 1 for the Civic and it = very large expense installed at dealership.

Alls i nkow is that they are all stamped L3 but other than that im not sure.

Re: (jc836)

$1000 dollars? That's not bad...I was quoted by Comptech for approx $2000 and that is only for the rebuild with geniune OE parts. Anybody in the Bay to Sac know of a shop that can rebuild?

Thanks

The Ricer 03-23-2006 04:43 PM

theres a little stamp on the trans right by the opening for the axel on the passenger side..
it'll say L3 on the top with either A000 or B000 under it
A000 = small bearing case = CX/DX/HX/VX case, bad!
B000 = large bearing case = EX/Si case, GOOD!!!!

Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you sonic...i will try and find out tommorrow if it is.

Kinda wierd...I talked to somebody at San Leandro Honda to see how much a rebuilt one is and he said they don't make one...then I asked to see if they can rebuild it and they say that no dealers rebuilds them...then I asked him if there is any way I can find out if my tranny is a DX or an Si and he said if it has 4 spd then it is a DX and that an Si is 5 Spd

look at the stamp on the trans like the picture i posted.. does it say A000 or B000?

if it says A000 then yes its definitly a DX.. if it says B000.. try the test again https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

SFlCrx 03-29-2006 06:35 PM

if its out of the car and u don't see a stamp which i doubt just pop the case and count the drive shaft with the couter shaft 5th gear and divide the drive shaft from the couter to get the gear ratio and look up the gear ratios. or if its in the car there is a site i forgot you put ur rim and tire size in and what tranny u think u have and put in the rpms and it should tell u the speed and vice versa but a dx tranny on 14s or 15s in 5th gear at about 50 miles it should be at about 2000 rpm if its higher like 2500 its a si tranny this test won't work if u have 17s- 22s lol

89crx1184 03-29-2006 06:54 PM

i read somewhere on h-t when you on 5th gear and going 75 mph you should be around 3500 rpm... well thats what i read i mite be wrong but im sure of what i read

I've been told this.

Si= 1000, 3000, 9000

DX or lower model= A100, A300, A900, A000

white90crxhf 03-31-2006 07:27 PM

my stamp looks like

PL3
3000

it doesnt look like a B000 at all.
