aight, im pretty sure my catalytic converter hasnt even been changed in its life .. so im thinking about taking it off and gutting it ... will my car still pass the inspection .. i live in NC and im like 90% sure it will since its a 91' .. but yeah how do i go about doing this .. i know i gotta take it off then i just stick a chisle in and use a hammer .. and thats it right .. just do it a coulpe times ... and does it make a diff. in the sound and performance .. thanks

I did that to mine... I wish everyday that I wouldnt have.
My exhaust smells horrible and I get worse fuel mileage. Maybe slightly better performance, or it could be in my head since exhaust is now louder. But the juice isnt worth the squeeze here.

agreed Im wanting to put mine back on. the fmes smell like **** and I lost a bit of gas mileage. Im gonna have a shop weld it back up soon.

Get an aftermarket cat, they can be had for around $100. I find it very hard to believe that you would be able to pass an emissions test with the catalyst removed from the cat.

dont destroy the factory one and use it to pass emmissions when needed.

I did that to one of mine in the past. It was clogged, and I was short on cash. I ran in that way for about a month. I didn't notice any drop in MPG at all.

so are the only bad things about it just the smell and how bad is the drop in MPG ...

or would i be better off getting a test pipe and taking the cat apart and welding the cover on the test pipe

Did that for my CRX. Got an exhaust system and the oem cat was rusted on the b-pipe. Napa sold me one for $107. It worked great. I even switched it to my 93HB a year later, had to weld in a 1" extention, but still worked perfect till the day I sold the car.

welding the cat heat shield to a test pipe is absolutely worthless.
Either run a test pipe or the oem catalytic.
Do not destroy the cat so you can pass emmisions when needed.
