Default gsr cluster into 88-89

ive been searchin around for a few hours and all ive found are instructions and write-ups for gsr clusters into 90-91 ef's..... anyone know how different the wiring is from 88-89 to 90-91? or does anyone have a link to a write-up for the installation of a dc cluster into an 88-89 ef?

its pretty easy all you do is search for wire pinouts for your 88-89 then you search for wire pinouts for the cluster you have then you match up wires. dont forget your gona need an electric vss and the plug for it. i did it in a 88 crx so i know theres wire pinouts with pictures just search for them.

also i think you are gonna need the 90-91 gauge cluster cover to cover the gsr cluster. iirc the 88-89 doesn't fit.

the gauge cluster cover is, but not necessarily the car. so like I said above, he will need the 90-91 cluster cover to fit over the gsr cluster.

it does infact fit, you just have to grind the plastic lip thing off of the top of the cluster. i did it

sadly with modification. much cleaner looking, IMO to convert to the 90-91 style dash set up. that is what i did, i think i will like it better as the first gen (zenki?? lol 88-89) ed's made viability on the cluster difficult due to the boxyness of the cluster cover.

Alrighty, well i picked up a 90-91 gauge cluster cover to do the gsr cluster swap, but now i stumbled upon another problem... i pulled the plugs for the cluster from a car at the junk yard and it seems like only a few wires are matching up with the integra pinouts i found... did i maybe pull these plugs out of a different year car? does it matter if the plugs came from an LS or a GSR teg? heres some pics of the plugs...

what is this empty spot? did i forget a plug?

hey i just realized I messed up when entering 2 of my color - pins. where I have C8 and C7 needs to be on C7 and C6. I corrected it on my first post. As far as the color of the wires are concerned, I wouldn't worry about the colors being off. Sometimes they differ from year to year.

i never tried matching it to actual positions on the connector. following colors just seemed easier. i put this together when i did my cluster swap. from what i discovered when searching it seemed that the ls,gsr, and type r cluster plugs all had the same color wires.

If you happen to get your plugs from another car (say an EK or a Prelude, like I did) then you have to go by wire position.

Ok, I got the cluster installed and everything works! It took me about 7 hours cause none of the wires matched wut the pinouts said, im sure they work for some cars, but they didnt work for mine... lol, I had to trace all the wires onto the little circuit board/paper thing on the back of the cluster to each bulb/gauge.... everything worked the first time except I couldnt get a signal at the speedo. I cut and soldered the speedo wires like 3 time just to make sure I had a good connection and took about 2 hours just looking over the wires and double/tripple checking that i had everything right. Right befor i was about to give up I found out it was my electronic vss... it was bad! Does anyone know wut would cause a tach to go ballistic? It works fine once the car is warmed up, but when i first start it, it reads all over the place... but like i said once its been driven for about 5-10 mins it reads perfect... im stumped...
