Default fitting SI muffler on a DX?

i put a stock 90 si hatch muffler on my 90 dx hatch, and the muffler sits really weird under the car. an i wrong in thinking the two are compatible? what do i need to do to get the si to fit?

the passenger side of the muffler sits a lot higher than the driver side, and the whole assembly is tilted toward the front of the car.
