another thought.. if the crossmember you're taking it off of is done anyways, just take the grinder and cutting wheel to it and cut the rack out you'd only have to make 4 cuts, lol.

heh, yeah, I've seriously considered it But I don't want to cut the good crossmember when I'm trying to swap it into my car so I'd rather learn how to do it w/o cutting

All I remember is I had to put the rack full lock to one of the sides and then I had the clearance needed.

You'll want to reuse your cable d series tranny. If you have a DX or STD tranny, consider picking up an Si transmission. I don't know of any adapter kits that allow you to use a hydro tranny in a cable application for the D series.

How long did it take you to remove and install the rack?

umm... i dont remember exactly
im guessing somewhere between 40mins and an hour.
could have done it a lot faster if i had a hoist or something, instead of laying under it.

DANG you guys are good! Did you remove the exhaust & shift linkage, or just work around it?

Yeah, we took off the exhaust, the mid pipe.Just unbolted the cat to header bolts, and hangers on the resonator. Moved the rack as for to the right then lower it, worked around the shift linkage, and lowered the rack, looked like the shift linkage would be in the way, worked around the shift linkage didn't have to take it off at all.I guess because i have a swap b16a first gen with hcp mounts and a hasport shift linkage, the motor sits lower. But a steering rack is a good investment.Hope everything works with yours.

I took off my shift linkage. I dont see why everyone has so much trouble witht he "bitch pin". I live in canada, so I get a lot of rust and anything, but I never seem to have any trouble getting it out. and I just unbolted my cat, front and back, and that got the exhaust out of the way.

Well the F-ing muffler shop welded my cat bolts to my exhaust manifold so I guess I won't be changing my rack anytime soon.

Well guys I got the rack dropped last night... didn't even have to remove the shift linkage or the exhaust. I just worked around them. So I now have a Civic DX rack, new tie-rod ends, extended wheelstuds and new wheel hub bearings... if I could get an alignment done today I'd let you know how it drives too Tomorrow!

Well, alignment, new tie rod ends, new wheel hub bearings, and the new rack... and it drives GREAT I had it at autocross and while all the new parts didn't make a huge difference in overall handling it helped out with the responsiveness quite a bit. Less flailing behind the wheel, you could say
