Being this thread is now 5 years old, i doubt it.
Its true the 90-91 style are a small spline, and the 92-93 are the large spline mainshaft just like the newer 94-01 hydro tranny's
For what its worth now that these gearboxes are getting older in the years, not sure its worth all the trouble swapping gears. These are cheaper, easier options now.....
- source out a 92-93 Ys1 vtec tranny, they cost less than they used too, better quality and better gearing, plus all parts can be had at any dealer
- buy a new vtec hydro tranny and do the conversion, these cost way less than they did 5 years ago

You'd be surprised at how much old crap we really have.
I'll ask him tomorrow.
Rebuild kits for the S1 and J1 trannies can be had for fairly cheap. And if you put in an aftermarket LSD and replace the weak diff, they're pretty reliable. Definitely not as good as a 92-93 GSR tranny, but mine shifts smooth and nice still

Re: How-To: LS 5th Gear Install guide! JDM B16 S1 (Malgerus)
I still think its worth looking around. The last tranny i picked up for my crx was a couple years ago. My jdm supplier always gets in large shipments, so i found a very clean 2nd gen B16A complete with the all famous YS1 gearbox from a 1992 Integra. It has the LSD option already, so no worries about investing more $$ into parts/labour.
What i did to keep things cheap was but the whole swap for 2 grand. Sold the engine off for $1200, and the obd1 pr3 ecu for $200. I am into my newer perfect tranny with lsd for $600....great deal if you ask me

Did this swap ever grind? If so do you think it was grinding because it needs to use the LS fifth gear syncro? I have a J1 transmission and it tops out at about 120mph.
