Since you have an idle problem and a TPS code, I would check the TPS sensor. It's not hard but the best way to check it would be with a digital storage oscilloscope which most people don't have. Instead of the dealer I would recommend finding a good independent repair shop, preferably one that specializes in Hondas.

I can't really tell with his post. The lack of punctuation definitely is confusing. I didn't get that he had a code, but wanted to check for the code.

In my 90 si the tps is just a variable resistor. If this is the setup on your 88 you can test it with a $10 multimeter and the info here; https://honda-tech.com/tech-misc-15/diy-calibrating-voltage-tps-2947986/ or here; https://honda-tech.com/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/official-honda-tps-wiring-calibration-thread-2830131/

I agree about the difficulty but my best guess is that he is saying he has 7 blinks from the ECU diagnostic LED.

Yes, it is basically a variable resistor (technically a poteniometer) and you can use a volt meter to make basic measurements. That may be all that is required in this case. However, if you are trying to find a "glitch" that only occurs for a brief range of movement in the sensor, using a DSO will make it easier to diagnose.

I'd check the wiring before replacing the TPS
