Determing a bad motor mount: Engine moves now..a LOT
 

Coming out of my driveway this afternoon, I think one of the motor mounts might have given out. It was just 'fixed', but I am not sure what was done to it.

When I hit the gas now, the shift linkage jumps up about 2-3inches, and I can feel the engine jump forward..and comes back when I let off.

I haven't gotten in there to actually see the mount, but does this sound like it could be what the problem is? I'm thinking rear, but would the left/right do that too if it goes out?

my buddies 99 hatch with a gsr busted the driver side mount and every time het launch or got on it hard the motor would hit the hood... so funny it toasted the hood

try rocking the motor to see which way it goes and might lead you to were the prob is coming from

which mount was just fixed? I'd check it first for stripped threads.

if it tilts foward and backward. maybe the front mount , next under the radiator..... and yes the rear one can make a tilt foward and backward....... go check the one they just changed.....but its either the rear or front one..... the ones on the sides wont make it titlt so bad..... bc i had the side one bad and it didnt......

Found it, it's the rear:

Here's what happened. Before I got the car, the threads stripped out of the tranny on the rear mount. Jeff tapped a 1/2 thread in to the tranny, and threaded in 2 new bolts. The new ones stripped out, and now there's like 1 1/2 way in, and the other is gone.

What do you guys think of this idea:

1. Rethread the 1/2 in to the tranny.
2. I have 2 grade 8 bolts, put JBWeld and threadlocker all over them, and thread those things in there tight..
3. Hope it holds

Do you think it will hold w/ the JBWeld and High Strength threadlocker, or am I looking at a freakin new tranny?

A Heli-Coil thread insert is the best way to repair stripped threads in aluminum:

How do these heli coils work? I stripped a thread on the passengers side motor mount that goes in the tranny on my 98 gsr..aany help appreciated.

try getting a slightly loner bolt bout .5" longer and also wider...then rethread the tranny holes to the new bolt u found.

dont try impacting them either cuz if the crossthread it can crack the tranny!!

I ended up taking the right bolt, using JBWeld and Threadlocker, pushed them both in, and they're still holding today...

Is there a way i can fill that tranny hole taht i stripped wiht "liquid aluminum"? Can a welding place fill it, so I can re-drill and re-tap it? Would it cost much?
Saw this stuff on tv years ago, though of it after i posted.
