Hey does anyone know how fast an ef would be with a D16z6 motor?

It's not fast I have a OBD1 z6 IHE, y8 manifold, in my 88 DX beater hatch, yeah the light one, and it is not fast at all. Quick at best.

Just like anything, it could be fast. Probably not too fast in stock form, but definitely quick. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

saying quick is generous..

projsectEF 05-16-2006 07:25 PM

thanks guys, quick is good enough for me. Thats the only motor I can probably afford.

Man I drove a stock HF once. I think my mountain bike was actually faster!

Oddly enough the HF still got better milage http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

OP:fast is in who you ask, for 1/4 10s and less or I don't call it fast others 14s might be fast.

Speed is relative simple.

Fast? No. A decent upgrade? Yes.

On a good note for this project my beater with the z6, is my daily commuter, and it gets 44mpg highway, 38city, with a dx tranny. I never built it to be fast, just a fun daily, with good mileage. Most of the fun factor comes from the suspension though. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I have a d16z6 in my 90 STD. I also have a CRX Si tranny and OBD1 conversion.

It does pretty good. Not a rocket, but it gets the job done. It's plenty fun and was the cheapest/easiest option for me. I wanted something cheap and faster than stock. I also get great milage (about 36) even with the Si tranny.

I think the d16z6 and the Si tranny go really well together.

Anyways, if you are looking to build a drag car, then go for something else. But if you want a fun daily driver that won't break the bank, then go with the d16z6.

A good Z6 or Y8 is a step up. I've heard that an aftermarket cam in a z6 with I/H/E and some tuning makes a world of difference.

Exactly my beater is loads of fun. It's a little quick, it handles well, and I have next to nothing in it. So I treat it like the name implies. Sure my crx makes it look foolish, and pitiful, but it is fun. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

lol. Me too. I beat the hell out of my car.

It's nice to go to the autocross course and drive the shit out of it without having to worry about breaking something. Because if I do, it's super cheap to fix.

It gets my car around the cones just fine for my skill level at this point, especially since I'm at the top of 1st and 2nd gear through the whole course.

That reminds me of my previous beater. It was a 91 hatch DX, gutted, MPFI, ST rear bar, H&R Sports, Azenies, HX wheels, and a JDM Frontend. I auto-xed it once man it was great. I was redlining the crap outa it, I figured why shift that takes too long. The Result I was 3rd for time of the day, and destroyed the ESP class. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Sorry to get back to that... have a funny HF story.
So my friend has a completely stock 90 HF he bought like a month ago, and I'm talking stock like the snorkel tube is still in there, honda alternator we just replaced, almost all original parts. It runs great but throws a code for EGR (waiting on rebuild parts for an A6). Anyway, so a couple of weeks ago I put a couple holes in my A6 in my car... needed to drive down to RI and get my mini-me pieces. I drove down there, got it well over 100 on the mass pike, yes, downhill, and I got 54mpg. So on the way back I'm driving on the pike again, almost in NY. I'm doing like 75-80 in 5th, just cruising along with traffic, and all of a sudden it starts losing speed. It felt like the brakes were dragging or something, so of course I gave it some more gas... just made more noise. So conveniently there's a rest stop (Blandford or Lee, I don't remember which) and I pull over there like a mile down the road, and at this point the thing is closing in on 55mph and everyone I've been passing is going by me. So I pull off and hop out to check if the hubs are hot to see if the brakes are dragging, they're fine! Pop the hood, look everything over and I cant figure it out. So I call my friend and tell him I think I broke his CRX he's been looking for for like 6 months and had for maybe 2 weeks. I told him what happened and he asked if I was going up a hill. So I look over... and it's MAYBE a 1% grade... and he asks what gear I was in, I told him I was doing 80 or so in 5th... he laughed at me and said try 3rd... So I get back on the pike and get up to speed (which takes a very, very long time) and a few miles down the road I see a sign... Highest turnpike elevation...
