D16Y8 drivers side engine mount issue
Hi guys,
Doing a D16Y8 swap and I've encountered with an issue - The driver side mount doesn't fit perfectly - it sits in an angle - we've used an old bracket that was on the A7 block and new mount from ebay - anyway
If it was the oem one it will still fit in with an angle because of the different screw locations on the block - there is a lot of strain put on the mount and it's almost touching the mount connection inside the motor bay.
Have anyone had this issue? (it's some kind of a rare Y8 block - didn't have the screw locations for the half shaft as well - it is Y8 for sure)
By the way, the passenger side mount sits perfectly in it's place
Thanks a lot!

Re: D16Y8 drivers side mount issue
ive had this problem lots of times
i always just force the mount on and get the bolt to slide in
and with time the mount bushing will move over and then fit better
but!!! thats way later like a year later
thats was the old me
now what i do is take my grinder and put on a 40 grit sand paper pad and i change the angle of the bracket to the mount
to make it fit better i just grind away till it fits snug
i scratch it up then clean the scratches then repeat and keep refitting the mount to see the differance
i do this so i dont take too much metal off and after about 20 times the mount sits perfect
thats what i do because im cheap
but hasport does sell the bracket with the angle already fixed also
that would be the lazy way to fix the problem
both ways work
you just take your pick ^_-

Looked at hasport website - found only B series bracket - Is this the one? PR3BB® - Block Brackets - Brackets - Accessories
About the grinding - what part do you grind? the side that touches the mount?
What do you think of bending the mount housing to better direction?
*Also waiting for an answer from hasport

Re: D16Y8 drivers side mount issue
what happens when trying to put a newer obd1/2 d-series engine into the 88-91 chassis is people try and reuse the 88-91 d-series block bracket on the newer engine
the casting between the engines is different and thus the brackets are slightly different. it still bolts on and is usable but the only way it actually "works" is using the stock mount as it allows enough flex to get it in there
Hasport has a mount just for that swap when using the obd1/2 d-series engines. you use the stock obd1/2 d-series 2 bolt block bracket with the EFD2LH mount and everything fits the way it should
no twisting or weird angles like what is pictured above

but if you dont want to buy there mount then you can grind
the part you grind is on the bracket that goes to the block
where the two holes are that the engine mount/ mounts to
if you take that bracket off
youll see that is has a angle to it
all your going to do is lessen the angle and make it straighter
so you start grinding at the highest point and work your way down
youll see what im talking about when you take it out and get a good look
