d16a6 cam seal -quick help *now w/pics*

I'm mid-stroke in replacing the cam seal on my crx, need some pointers.

I've got the cam gear off and I'm staring at the seal, I'm trying to pry it out with a tiny flat-head, but more than anything its just coming apart. I need to know how much of whats under there is part of the seal. Part of the seal appears to be metal, however Im not sure if this is just what the new seal is supposed to slip over. I dont want to pry at something I'm trying to re-use.

Am I supposed to take the bracket that (looks like it houses the cam bearings) that is on the end of the camshaft? or should I be able to do this by simply removing the cam gear?

is part of the seal metal? the rubber is coming apart, but it appears to be wrapped around a solid metal center... Is this metal unerylaying part of the seal (ie now trash)... I can't see how you would pry this out with out destroying this piece.

I'll try and get pics....

I'm referring to the metal ring now left (sans rubber) spaced away from the camshaft and more or less jammed in the bore of the outer cam cradle

You don't have to take the cam out..

The two easiest ways either a seal puller

or what I usually do is drill a small hole through the metal
and thread a sheet metal screw into it..

After a good grip is obtained you can use pliers or wire cutters
to pull on the screw.

thanks very much for the responces.

I used a magnet to determine if the new seal had metal under the rubber, and sure enough it did, so I just decided to go to town on it, popped right out after a little bit of persuasion.
