Has anyone changed out their cluster, and installed one
from another car? What fits and what doesn't??
I'm planning on installing another engine and don't
really want to get a tachometer.

all crx's come with a tach stock so what are you looking for?

I know what you mean. My redline is 8200 now and the stock only reads up to 8000, with redline at 6500. You can use one from an SiR, but they are expensive(usually around $250). You also need an electronic VSS for it to work. I'm not exactly sure what is involved with the install, but supposedly it is not that hard.
Other clusters fit too, just not sure which ones they are.

If you got the SiR cluster, it would read 180kmh, which is only 112mph. It does not have the conversion reading like the usdm models do. It would be very hard to tell how fast you're going in the US using a JDM cluster. You can get custom guage faces for your cluster though, so you might want to do that with the JDM 180kmh cluster, and get a face that has about 115mph on it, and you could also tune the redline on the tach to where you wanted it. What engine do you have?

I think all ef civics/crx's have the same wire plugs for the dashes main harness and gauge pod but I ran into a few problems when I swaped my 88 civic dx dash out for a 90 crx si. I would turn on my lights and both my door open and engine check light come on and my tach jumped to 8k(without engine on). So, there are wires that need to be cut and re-spliced here and there but its not a huge deal I have eliminated most of those now. The confusing thing is that everything plugs in on the guage pod so you'd think it should work but some of the wires are in different pin locations from car to car.

Well i have a 89Dx and I'm going to put a vtec motor
in the near future. And i don't really want to get
a Big *** tach because i'm going for the sleeper look.
So I wanted to know what cluster would fit my car that
has a redline at about 8200??

Best thing would be the SIR cluster..its not very difficult but you have to know what you are doing

Youll need a VSS from a teg for the speedo to work.
Youll need a gas tank sensor from a teg as well if you want the low fuel light to work.

Everything else is just figuring out wiring...

I have a '90 STD hatch, and found an Si cluster for pretty cheap.

This should work based on the info. here, but I am curious as to what I will have to re-wire if anything??

Actually another question, it is an '88-'89 cluster I believe, will it actually work??

No it won't work unless you get the gauge housing from a 88-89. The clusters are different between the 88-89 and the 90-91 models.
