CRX Dim Left taillight issue

i have a 1990 crx si i just purchased and it came with the carbonfiber TYC tails so i took them off first 10 mins i got the car and put on some nice fresh 90-91 taillights and my right side is minty and nice and bright but the left side is dimer then the right, both sides have the same brand new bulbs, and yes i even took them out and tried 2 other brand new one to be sure, but no mater what i cant figure it out.... if anyone has any info that can help me please let me know thanks.

i did reserch, but i didnt find anything .

spastik 02-12-2008 09:18 PM

mine do the same thing. it isnt that much dimmer.. but it is dimmer than the right side.

reason.. beats me. i would like to know as well

Re: (spastik)

If its dimmer its because there is resistance...most likely in the socket itself https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Switch the sockets around and see if its brighter with the known bright socket...

yeah. i had the same issue with my rex when i bought it. Turned out a had a bad socket. Swap you tailight harneses around, if it follows then i would try a new socket.

I used degreaser on the connections and it worked nicely afterwards.

ya or it could be a bulb and you dont realize it until you check

ya i swapped the harnesses and its still dim ,i tried 2 diff sets of harnesses and there both only goin dim on the left side for some reason.

Re: (superhatchbackbros)

i replaced all the bulbs in mine as well. whenever im behind a crx at night.. i always look to see if one is dimmer than the other, they all seem to be. maybe it depends on how the power is being sent to the back... like the passenger side gets the power first.. then the driver side

I'd bet that it's as simple as a dirty connection. Clean all the connections with electrical contact cleaner (sockets and harness connectors) and see if it's solves the issue. If not, it may be a grounding issue.

there is resistance somewhere in that circuit. Find it, check the grounds and contact points https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (alscrx)

My left tail light is also dimmer..

It looks similar to the CRX pic posted here:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2150617&page=3
Notice the right side is brighter?

I think in my case the reflective material inside the lamp housing
has been water damaged and fails to reflect the light properly..

The ground is probably dirty. clean the sockets and at worst run a new wire from the other taillight to rule it out. the wire could be partially broken inside its jacket

sorry to bump this, but just giving my input since i know mostly, if not all crx's have this problem. it had to be a screw up from the factory. if you look in clear daylight, your drivers side taillight has a darker tint to it. my guess is they used a different color plastic when molding a huge batch of tail lights from the factory.
to this day, i have never seen a crx in my life without a dim drivers side rear tail.

put it back in and BAM no more dim haha
