crx battery light
I began having issues with my crx battery light flickering. Eventually, the light began to stay on and subsequently died one night. I replaced the alternator and took it for a test run and the light came back on. So today i bought a new battery and, yep you guessed it, the light came back on while driving. Any suggestions?

Re: crx battery light
re-test alternator or test using other known working alternator, tighten alternator belt or add a capacitor if using a strong amp setup...!!!

Re: crx battery light
Have the new alternator tested its not uncommon for just bought alternators to be bad espcially if there remanufactured.

Re: crx battery light
Yeah if you did buy a new alternator from Kragens/PepBoys/etc have them check it before you leave...this will save you the hassle of putting it on only to find it's not working. It happens more than you think since it's remanufactured instead of new. When this happend to me I bought a used one for cheap and took it in to get tested...worked so I slapped it in and was and have been good for years. Good luck.

Re: crx battery light
This exact thing happens to me too. IM thinking its the main relay, it didn't click the three times its supposed to when I turned the key. If it was the alternator wouldnt the car not turn on after awhile due to a dead battery? Why dont you replace that main relay and see what happens.

Re: crx battery light
Mmmmm not necessarily. If you have a good battery you can drive for a good little bit before it gives out especially if your not running alot of accessories and its a little 4cyl as well. But when the battery light comes on that means the voltage is too low normally caused by a bad alternator but what does the main relay do?

Re: crx battery light
I read that the main relay should click three times when you turn the key. First when the check engine light comes on, then when it turns off, finally when yoiu turn the car on. I didnt get the second click. ONly after the car is hot.

Does your idle get funny as well? |
Re: crx battery light
Have you tried changing the main relay? When my battery light comes on my idle gets high.

Re: crx battery light
make sure the grounds are clean and touch the chassis good. and look at the positive and negative connectors to the battery and clean/replace. also make sure the plug to the alternator isn't gunked up and is clean(they can from time to time get grim in the grooves). and the ground from the alternator is clean. if not try a new alternator. most of the time battery's r not the problem, although it is possible

did you figure out the problem?

Re: crx battery light
check for voltage on the battery if it's charging.... you may have a loose connection to the battery light
|
Re: crx battery light
check the tension on the belt. if it is too tight or too loose it will give you a whole heap of problems. too tight will cause a lot of stress on the bearing, premature wearing, and a low voltage output. hope this helps at all
