code 5 (map sensor). everything was fine before the zc, whats my problem

hey guys, i just swapped sohc zc into 89 hf. it was throwing code 7, so i replaced the tps, as soon as i did, it started throwing code 5. never had any problems with the stock motor, and im not an expert by far, so i need some expert help. already reset the ecu, and it still does it. im looking for any kind of help.

Re: code 5 (Chiovnidca)

all vacuum lines fine. just swapped in the stock ecu for the hf, cause i had pm6 in it, and the check engine light did not come opn. any ideas about that??

Re: code 5 (crxdriver89)

alright, i just went out and checked it again, and there was still no cel with the stock ecu. i don't understand. was there something i had to do to the pm6? switch a wire or something? i just don't get it

i thought map sensor was code 3?

crxdriver89 Aug 18, 2005 08:52 PM

Re: code 5 (1type)

on the code printout i have, it says code five is the same as three.

Re: code 5 (crxdriver89)

guys, i just don't get it. before i put in the new tps sensor, it was not throwing code 5. so, to recap, throwing just code 7, replace tps, and when i started it to see if it worked, i got code 5. i just wanna get this damn thing running right, without spending all the loot i have. any help, ideas, theories, anything, i need 'em. thanks

Re: code 5 (crxdriver89)

I am having the same issue. Only difference is I am throwing both code 3 and 5. I know that one is electrical and one is mechanical MAP sensor. I went through an followed the troubleshooting in downloadable pics in the FAQ, but I am possibly getting a short or break in the wires some where....try this link for your issue.

Re: code 5 (busychild)

thanks, i'll check it out. also, it now throws code five no matter what ecu i have in. i'm not sure if i've got vacuum issues or what. i haven't had time to go out and mess with it again, plus, i feel like i need help. i wish i knew someone near me that knows what they're doin when it comes to honda. i live in the boondocks surrounded by old camaro's and trucks with "git 'r done" on the windshield. not that thats an insult to anyone, but come on, the phrase is played out, move on.

Re: code 5 (busychild)

hey, thanks a ton man. i followed that link and saw the hose that goes to the map sensor was #21 and went and checked, and my brother had accidentally blocked that off thinking it was for the egr valve or something like that. no more code five. new question though, what vacuum hose does # 16 go to, because thats the one that was plugged into the intake in place of the map sensor vac. hose. so, whats it for, and should i block it off, cause i have no where to put it.

Have you checked the vacuum line? Is it properly routed? Any cracks?

SiHatchTurbo Sep 6, 2005 10:14 AM

they all seem to be fine

Re: (SiHatchTurbo)

well, this is what i did, its not right, but it works. for some reason, this sohc zc bogged down with the map vac. line plugged into the intake, but with the egr plugged in where the map went, it ran killer, and yes i know there's nothing even remotely right about that, but it works, and i don't know why, just throws codes 3 and 5. and ran really rich, but i thinks thats the pm6 ecu and no adjustable fpr. so i bought a vacuum t and ran the egr and the map into it and then a hose to the intake, and its kind of a in betweener. i don't have as much bog, but its still noticable, and it doesn't pull as hard as when just the egr vac was plugged into where the map was supposed to go. and it idles without dying when i come to a stop. and with the egr where the map vac line was supposed to go, i had awesome power b/w 4000 and 6000 rpm, but with them both t'd into the intake, the power doesn't start until 6000, and its still not as much as it was. its not what i wanted, but until someone can tell me what the hell is wrong, it'll have to work, cause its the only way the car will run and not throw codes and not bog down. well, thats what i did, just to let you guys know? anyone know my real problem?? i've searched the bejesus out of this, so until i learn whats going on, i'll leave it as is.

Re: (crxdriver89)

The map sensor runs off the nipple on your throttle body. Everything is just of the plenium.

On a stock car I hook up the map and the FPR the rest is just emmisions crap, I usually throw the charcoal canister and all that crap away.

Re: (DohcVtecCrx)

well, the zc has no egr valve, but with that vac line blocked off, it ran like crap, why is that?? man, i wish someone could tell me what the problem is so i wouldn't have to have this thing rigged up like this and so i can get the full power out of the zc

Re: (crxdriver89)

hf and some h and f series run egr...that is about it.

map sensor should run off the firewall. I usually just run a new hose right to the bottom of it. Run the line to the fpr and plug off everything else. See how that goes.
