Hey guys
I recently acquired a 1991 EX ef that was BONE stock. It had ICE COLD a/c when i bought it. I drove it home, swapped out the tired d16a6, and dropped in a d16z6. I never disconnected the compressor or anything. However, for some reason, the a/c was no longer blowing cold after everything else was put back together. I can build an engine, but know NOTHING about a/c systems. I assumed it would have still worked since all i did was swap out the motor. Is there some sort of sensor on the old a6 motor that isn't on the z6, that the car requires for the a/c? I also changed the PM6 ECU to a Hondata s300. Would that affect the normal operation of the a/c? Thanks

How exactly did you charge it? Did you leave the whole unit in while you swapped? I need details on how you serviced the system if you did take it apart-- did you use a tank and scale, and a set of manifold gauges? What are your pressures while running?

Do you still have the stock radiator and condenser?

And no on the sensor, but the z6 is a vtec. I could have sworn I read in some instances someone can alter the ECU's A/C on command to accommodate VTEC. Can someone more experienced with the S300 and ECUs chime in? I've never used an S300 or even chipped an ECU.

i didnt charge it. I bought the car and was driving it home. AC was ice cold. When i got home, i separated the compressor from the bracket on the block, took out the engine, put in the z6, and bolted the compressor back to the block. Changed the ECU from the stock PM6 to the Hondate s300 and started the car. A/C was no longer cold. Stock condenser and radiator and fans all remained in place.

Does the compressor clutch cycle at all?

Hondata had some really low AC cutouts set. I think default is something like 30% TPS or above 3500rpm. I had to bump the TPS up to 85% and RPM to 5800 to get AC while driving around.

I'll have to look into that later on. A/c line burned up so i just removed the compressor and called it a day. Didnt have any A/C anyway so it didnt matter. but now that you mention it, i dont recall hearing the clutch engage

You could have just replaced the A/C line and receiver/dryer, pulled a deep vacuum, and recharged the system with oil and refrigerant.

Thats what i plan on doing, after i get the car running right.
