Im having some problems with my car. i hope some of the tech guys in here can help me out. I have a 1990 CRX Si w/ B16a. when i start up my car, it revs till idle then dies. it has been happening for the past 6 months but only on occasions. Then i havent drove my car for about a month and now it does it just about everytime i start it. funny thing is, if i step on the gas pedal a bit a raise the revs as i start it, it then idles just fine. the car drives normal after this. but if i give it no gas as i crank the car up, it dies. I first thought it was a fuel filter and i changed it, but it still happens. my next assumption is the TW sensor (coolant temperature sensor). a screwed up tw sensor might mess things up a little bit.

i think you should check your idle air control valve. you got an y check engine lights

thanks trinity. no check engine light. but i was driving earlier and suddenly my car bogged for a second and the check engine light came on for a second then turned off. i pulled over to check for a code but nothing. the ecu shows nothing.

i checked the idle air control valve and it seems to be working. i warmed up the car until the radiator fan came on and unpluged the iacv and the engine lost speed. so this means its working right?/ because if the engine didnt lose speed, then it should not ve working. correct me if im wrong.

i think it could be a lose plug or wire. because it seems to start fine sometimes. where shoudl i start looking? any other suggestions on the problem?

Sounds like the same thing that happened to the car I am planning to buy. I hope it isn't too expensive to fix!

Okay I'm not an expert but stuff like that has happened to me before. I had a frayed wire in the distributor, don't ask why but, it would cross with another wire when the engine vibrated after a while my car would start shuddering and die, then it wouldn't turn on. Something similar happens to the family Maxima. It's probably electrical, check all the wiring. Hope this can help, and if not, thats one less thing you know isn't the problem.
