Car is off but battery is getting drained

Car is off but battery is getting drained
So recently i have changed out my batteries 3 times.
This time i put a battery in i knew was good into my CRX
1989 CRX DX 1.5 Liter Automatic
This battery was drained empty also.
So i did a test and disconnected the car, charged the battery again jsut to see if the battery would float and it did...
SO!!!!!
Something in my car is draining the battery... No lights are on, i sometimes hear a clicking noise coming from my drivers door... not sure what that is or if thats the culprate.
I do notice that the cars computers system is wired directly to the battery... not sure if that matters and if maybe the computer is staying on all the time and draining it down... if thats the case ill just put a switch on it.
it takes about 2 days for the battery to get drained so i am guessing it cant be more than a 1-2 amp pull.
any help is apprciated.

Re: Car is off but battery is getting drained
do you have an aftermarket stereo? what about a car alarm that you always have armed?
The ecu should not be the problem if it is wired as it should be from the factory. The amp draw when sitting from the factory is like .04 amps. It is enough to keep the dash clock running and the stereo presets and thats about it..
What battery are you using? a stock one or a pc680 or similar? the problem is either a parasitic draw from some device that is installed wrong, or you are trying to use a battery with a really low amp-hour rating.

i actaully have 5 batteries in the car. kinetik 2400 equivalent. it drained all of them over a 2 week period of time to 11.5
As far as the ecu... the hardware with the wiring is all stock except for a single piece of 8 guage running from it to the battery direct...
i guess i could just do a test and unplug the ECU and let the car sit for a day or to and see if it still draws. i havent done that yet.

ok i did the test.... i pulled the dash apart and all the wiring seemed correct... i connect the ECU and it drained to battery... so i guess ill just put a switch on the ECU

Did you do anything to the car recently? anything at all as in before the problem started occuring? I find it very hard to believe the ECU would be causing the problem. Check wires under the hood and dash for any grounding out.

taking out the fuses one at a time is smart... i didnt think of that... i know that what ever is pulling... is dropping to voltage .8 on my stock battery immedialty... i keep everyone updated...
and before u editted u mentioned the doors can be hogs on power... i do know that my doors sensors and seatbelt sensors i muffed up... it doesnt regognize that my seatbelt is fastened or the drivers door is shut... i guess the seats are coming out... and the carpet is coming up... i bet thats the root of the issue.

actually its been doing this even when i bought the car... i have only owned it since april... and the guy before me kept telling me how much wal mart batteries suck... lol i just took it as a grain of salt... when i stopped driving the car around as much and it would sit in the car for weeks thats when i really noticed the issue... it was there all along.

if your seatbelt sensors are acting up you can unplug them I think all they do is throw up the seat belt warning light and im pretty sure it wont affect the function of your setbelts but would like another persons opinion on that one. Mine are disconnected and my seatbelt works fine you can access the plug without removing seats and carpet also.

Re: Car is off but battery is getting drained
I mentioned this because when I painted my car I removed mine so I wouldnt get paint on them and they drained my battery in no time, also I read a post but couldnt find it about how malfunctioning seat belts cause parasitic draw. I edited because I found a post that explained it a lot better than I did lol

well you can always do the classic pull all fuses out, then install one at a time until you find the circuit with the parasitic draw

Re: Car is off but battery is getting drained
This happened to me, and did the 'fuse pull' until I narrowed it down to the door circuitry. Turned out the passenger-door-closed (?) sensor was the culprit. It drained the battery when the door was closed, but not when it was open. I pulled off the interior door panel, and disconnected the plug on the wire going from the front to the rear of the door.
Problem solved.

Re: Car is off but battery is getting drained
Parasitic draw is a common occurrence with the door latch inside the door of cars with door mounted seatbelts. Unplug it from inside the door. good luck.
