Default car dead on highway

91 std w/mpfi swap. last session of a track day and i start getting hesitation and backfiring at the top of third. go to drive home and car drives for about an hour hesitating intermittantly. finally car dies at red light. i get it fired back up and it goes about another 30 miles. tach is jumpy, blew out cat, running very rich, dizzy is off an 89 crx si. took off exhaust at downpipe and car still is very boggish. anyone experience anything similar? i'm hoping it's the distributor and plan to take a new one w/me when i go to get car. i need help the car is 2 hours away and i'm going crazy. is this what goes on when the ignitor goes out?

It's the distributor. The same thing happened to my OBD0 B16a right after a track day, only I was lucky enough to have my car die in the parking lot of my girlfriend's apartment.

It was running fall the whole day at the track until I left and got on the highway, it was bogging really bad and then the car just completely shut down without any warning. But I couldn't get it started at all after it died. If you end up needing a new distributor, get one from the h-t sponser Distributor King. Great prices, sent me a tracking number the same day I ordered it, and I got my brand new distributor in 2 days

The bouncy tach is usually symptom of a dying ignitor. Usually when it dies it dies, and you cant start the car back up tho.

well i got it restarted and it drove good in 4th. i say good . it was still hesitating and bogging, but not as bad. it still starts but the rpms are jumpy and it bogs and you can smell fuel. we deduced it to be the dizzy and hopefully it is. i could get it to rev over 3000-3500 when i gave up and decided to head home. anyways i appreciate the input and welcome more if anyone else thinks different. going to go try to get it tomarrow w/dizzy in hand and if that does'nt work i'l trailer it home and cry the whole way. thanks guys

if you let it cool down it will most likely start.

mine did the same. was dying randomly and hesitating a lot(couldnt go faster than 40) then it finally died and wouldnt restart at taco bell. called tow truck but they wouldnt tow cuz it was lowered. finally i said screw it and got a ride.

comin home around 3am i decided to push my car home (no one on the streets and my house is less than a mile away. so for ***** and giggles i tryied to start it and it fired up. limped it to my house and put in a new ignitor. ran great after that.

CLIFFNOTES: let it cool down, drive it home, and replace the ignitor or distributor. also are you throwin code 15?

no, i'm throwing a, 1 o2 content,10 IAT,17 VSS. the o2 content could be related. this is the second cat in 6 months so there was a problem prior to this that i've yet to resolve. going to the car tomarrow so hopefully the dizzy works. will try to start cold to see what that does. we never got a chance to let it cool last night.
