Burned out starter solenoid?
I have a brandy new D16A6 engine in my civic. Since it just came back from the builder and has never been ran, I cranked the engine without the spark splugs for 10 second intervals to prime the oil pump.
After several intervals, the starter got "stuck" on, where it would spin and would not stop, but did not spin the engine. Like the gear was not getting pushed out to the flywheel.
further inspection revealed a bad ground between the battery and the tranny.
Have I done permanent damage to the starter? I took the starter off, grounded it, and hooked it up and same thing. If I trigger the solnenoid, the starter gear turns but does not "come out" and it won't stop until I yank the power.
Do I need a new starter? Did my bad ground cause this? Or can I repair it?
thanks in advance.
Sebastien.
PS: I measured the resistance between the contacts, and it is:
- between solenoid and power: 0 ohm
- between solenoid and ground: 0 ohm
- between solenoid and starter motor: 0 ohm

Re: Burned out starter solenoid? (TURBO BLUE HATCH)
thanks for the offer - that's a very good deal. But I need to get that car started today so I can load it up on the trailer.
Looks I am going to go buy a reman, overpriced starter. Live and learn.
thanks
S.
