My 91 civic lx 4door will not start all the time now??
its started doing this the other day, sometimes it start and other time not.
what happening -
it usually takes a couple seconds to crank over, but when it ***** up - it will just crank and crank for about 3-4 seconds and then throw a code. i checked it but its my first OBD0 car and i cant read the thing for ****. it blinks a total of 16 times before its starts over. it seems like 9-10 long and then the rest short. am i right here???? is that even a code - i dont think so.
i checked and there is spark to it, but prolly not fuel?
somtimes if i sit there and crank it for like 10-15 seconds it will get the motor moving faster and it will start.
weird, i dunno know what's going on - i got an extra fuel pump outta my 95 dx, are they compatible??

any suggestions or advise is much appreciated!

I had this problem with my old car, just open up the gas tank and releive the pressure inside of it... it's that simple

When you turn the key to the on position, can you hear the fuel pump come on? If not, I suspect your problem is the main relay.

try steve's suggestion, otherwise you may have some fuel delivery problem, perhaps the main relay as well.

yea i have had trouble with that damned relay on my other cars, but those were 5th gens. are the relays in the same position as the eg's????? im pretty sure i can hear the fuel pump, but ill double check later

driver side kick panel son... i suggest just taking the panel off... u can remove the fuse panel and try but that bitch is cramped asf uck...

i had the same problem althoug it hasnt happened in a long time. car would crank and not start and flash code 16. if you let it sit does it start?

it is the main relay. listen to what redline130 said and you should hear a click indicating the fuel pump came on when you turn the key to the 'on' position. the click should come on when the check engine light in your instrument panel comes on. the click sound comes from behind the fuse panel where the relay is located.

sometimes the high heat in the interiors of our cars can cause the connections to go bad. if you have mAd sKiLLz, y0 then you can solder the connections back together to fix the problem or you can also just go to NAPA and get the relay, beats the **** out of dealership prices and you get a warranty.

mayne wrelae, this should be a recallable part from Honda for the 4th gen cuz it always messes up, but it isn't. Don't know why but my 89 DX never had this problem, but my 89 CRX Si does it all the time.

sweet guys thanks for the help.
it is the relay, im pretty sure. the fuel pump isnt kicking on. I had the same problem on my 5th gen's. i have had two go bad on those.
i was mostly curious about the cel? so on obd0, each flash is one and the total number of flashes is the cel number?? sorry for such a dumb question, but i only know obd1 so far.

UPDATE - got the $43 relay and that car starts everytime so far. but it seems like it cranks more than a honda should. like 3-4, even more times before it kicks over. it just doesnt have the good ol' honda starting sound.
any more suggestions
