bad trans or bad linkage?
Alright..I just swapped a b18a1 into my 89 civic si. Was a pretty fun job. We get it into the car and start to drain the eng and trans fluids and replace it and start it up...well first thing the trans fluid was ****ing silver..next I put a magnet in the oil pan and there was metal shreads all up in that crap..so when we finally get it running right and test drive it 1/3/5 are really hard to go into and out..sometimes(Now this is where I think it could be the linkage or something) and sometimes it shifts like it has no damn problems and will go in and out of 1/3/5 like cake. So I'm trying to see if I can save me some money from getting a new cable trans.

I suppose the linkage bushing could be going out, along with possibly the motor mounts. But most likely something in the trans as the silver fluid is never a good sign. As for the motor I would run a leakdown or at least a compression test to make sure the motor is not fubar. It would suck pretty bad to get beat by a stock crx because your motor has such low compression (happened to me).

Mounts are solid. Where is the linkage bushing at? I am planing on checking compression soon. Since dude already burned me on a trans..****ing $700 for the full swap lol

Ok - you never said what linkage you were using in the first place. Typically metal shavings in the oil pan leans more towards rod/main bearings. So use an oil gauge to check your pressure. It's always a good idea to leak-down and compression test an engine. I try to do it at least once a year to all my vehicles to monitor their condition.

The Integra linkage. Why would it be the rods and main bearings if the fluid came out of the trans?

Oil pan. The thing you drain the oil in bro lol.
Well when we first tried dropping it with the lift the linkage that bots to the stick was hitting the ground and I was thinking maybe kinda bent it. But idk I'm just trying to cancel stuff out. I'll probably just get another trans and replace the clutch and resurface the flywheel while I'm down there. |

You say you drained the engine and transmission fluid. After you begin stating the transmission fluid was silver, you then go on to talk about putting a magnet in the oil pan. So this would clearly indicate you were talking about the engine now. Regardless, if your linkage isn't bent or defective in any way, I would suspect the transmission. If you install a known good transmission and still have a problem, I would assume your linkage to be the problem. Also, I am not your "bro" but you can call me "Pappy" or "Pops"... child. |

the trans has a magnet in it to catch debris from normal wear and tear.
If you are getting metal in the drained oil then you need to drop that tranny to repair or replace. It is only a matter of time before it craps out on you. |

my car its doing the same thing. this is the second tranny doing it, also this tranny was good because i pull it out my running car... Any help???

first off dude, dont be a dick to someone who probably knows alot more then you and is trying to help you out and fix your problems, he was first only asking if you were meaning the oil pan on the engine, because that's what you stated.
if you have metal shards in your oil from the engine, then yeah it could be rods, bearings. in the trans, if theres shards i'd say replace/rebuild your transmission. but, you could go the cheap way first, try changing out the shift linkage, check the clutch and replace it if need be. then if it's stil doing it buy a tranny, it wont hurt you at all cuz even if you just bought a trans you'd still have to buy the linkage and a new clutch. |

While it's out, you might want to invest <$50 to get a new input shaft bearing and seal. |
