Default Rusted out rear subframe

OK.. my buddy's CRX has a rusted out rear subframe... so the section where is lower control arm bolts too is rusted and about to fall apart (kindof and eventually will) It's pretty bad.. He somehow has postive camber from this..

Now, my question and theoretical solution is to completely remove the lower subfram section and replace/weld in a boxed tube that is the same dimensions and cut/knotch the ends and drill holes to bolt up the lower control arm..

Can anybody understand what I'm trying to say? Has anybody done this repair before? Thanks.

ken, why a compltly good, crossmember at the junkyard is only $70-90.....its fairly easy to remove it...the worst is just lining up the steering rack....but at times you get lucky...it took me about 4hrs by myself, the motor was in the car too...you will be suprised how light it is...

Hey Adrian,

I think you misunderstood... It's the rear section... Not the front subframe with the steering rack... I'm talking about the rear trunk section. Thanks though.
