Default b18 swap issues

i got everything ironed out last night and got her back on road. but having a few minor problems.

-my temp guage isnt working and i know the 2 wires are hooked up so can they be reversed?

-im have a issues with car throttling at idel, not throwing any codes but if i disconnect TPS and then reconnect it idels greats but throws TPS code.

-either my alternator or battery is dead after about 20 mins cruizing last night my lights started to get dim and it was a race to get home before it died. hooked up volt meter and had 10v. going to charge and have battery tested.

Sounds like your alternator is bad

yah i dont wanna imagine how hard that thing is gonna be to get out. sounds like car was running on battery reserve or alternator was charging but not enough.

make sure the belt is tight, but more than likely its bad. Use a volt meter and check what the volts are while the car is at idle.

ok did some work and found out some info.

took alternator off and took to auto parts store and had bench tested and it tested good. so took it back home and put back on car but would not work. had battery on charge for a while and started up car but still nothing. so i checked terminal on alternator with car running and nothing. check continuity from alternator to battery and that's good. so i pulled plug off alternator started car and checked those wires. the tan/blue wire has 11v, brown/yellow has 11v, blue has 4v and tan/yellowish has 0v. during all that the battery has 12v and when i pluged it back in the car rpm raised about 300rpms.

at this point i dont know what to do. any suggestions or anyone know what voltage i should have at that plug?

do you have an extra eld (electronic load detector) to swap out because that sends signal to your ecu that tells it weather or not to make the alternator charge or not to prevent overcharging and help fuel economy by reducing engine load also double check all your fuses.

never heard of a "ELD" where is it located at and i dont think i do have a extra, unless its in the extra wiring harness i have laying around. ill check fuses but did think any fuse would control output.

the eld is in the main fuse box under the hood it has a three pin connection blk/yel, blk, and grn/red also check ground g201 its the ground for the eld

ok so went home on lunch and did some checking didnt have long since i was on lunch but heres what i found.

disconnected connector and checked voltage from green/red to negative terminal and have 11v with key in run position. according to rewire i should have 4.5 to 5v.

i then hooked connector back up and turned low beams on and had 0v from green/red to negative ternimal.

wanted to check voltage from ELD to PFI but what the heck is a PFI control unitis. also wanted to check G201 ground but dont have my book handy to see where that one is. BUT i do have a 10Ga wire going from battery to passenger shock tower and a 4ga wire from battery to bell housing bolt. i would think that would be good but i dont know.

im assuming the fuse 14 in panel is good because i have voltage at the green/red wire so dont think that is the problem. BUT cant figure out why is says i should have 4.5 to 5v but i have 11. (should be 12 but my battery has drained down a little during all the work.

pfi i think you want the pgm-fi control unit or ecu the grn/red wire goes from eld to ecu at pin 10 on connector c452 at the ecu and the g 201 is the big cluster of black wires in the little white plastic box near the pass side head light and it bolts to the body next to a relay. i dont want to see you just throw parts at the car to fix it but if you have it available i would swap the ecu then try the main under hood fuse box

and easy way to check the eld ground would be just check continuity from the black wire at the eld to the battery ground or body ground.

ok thanks to some helpful (civicsi_guy) info i figured out alternator issues and got it fixed. i had some connection issues i unplugged everything cleaned out old grease got new grease and put all back together and it works great.

*now to issue 2 the only other one that seems to be kicking my butt. at idle it runs great when i go to move and shove clutch in it starts to to throttle real bad, then when driving it acts fine BUT when i come to stop and shove clutch in it starts throttleing for about 30 seconds then levels out...then shove clutch in to take off and it starts acting up again. i figured out i can disconnect tps sensor on back of throttle body and it then runs great again but now throwing a CEL for that....BUT i have this thing on intake that i have vacuum capped off. don't really know what it is but when i hooked it up it shoots the RPMS up to around 3500 at idle. going see if i can post a pic of it and see what it is.its located on front of intake right by throttle body and uses 1/8" vacuum tubing i think.
