B18 questions.
I cannot decide on what to do for an engine swap. someone had said a b18 is common... and less complicated than others.
i searched for a few hours, and could not find a swap guide... don't know much about the b18 either.
from what i know, it came in pretty much every acura integra.
i am looking at the b18b1 engine by the way... hoping it will please me.
i understand the obd0-obd1 conversion, get a jumper harness.
b series mounts too...
axles confuse me though. what would i need? shift linkage from an acura integra would work too? like, in the 94-00 era?
would getting a used engine from an auto wrecker be worth it? can i use the mounts from that car too? or is it just too unsafe?
this is hopefully going to be going in my 1988 crx si... i don't plan on boosting it right away, maybe next year, and after an engine rebuild. this is a summer car... so i want it to be somewhat fast. can i use the header+exhaust i have? i am pretty sure i will nead a new header... but just asking just incase.
don't tell me to search. like i said, i already did... couldn't find any good info. found a really good b16 swap guide though. http://www.crxresource.org/modules.p...rticle&sid=134
is it more worth doing a b16... seriously... moneywise to performance wise?

Re: B18 questions.
the b18b1 would certainly be a good engine to go with, and yes i may be somewhat bias... lol. they do handle boost quite well (they have 9.5:1 compression stock). check out the nearly 800 page thread of just boosted ls's. you'll learn a lot there.

The b1 is pretty close to the performance of a b16a. has less hp but more tq, and it's available earlier on. b16a (158hp/111tq at 7000rpm) b18b1 (142hp/127tq at 5000rpm) mated to the same tranny it would be a drivers race most times.
For axles you can use 90-93 teg axles with the matching manual trans intermediate shaft. if you have a 94-01 teg or 99-00 Civic Si intermediate shaft then you'll need those axles. You can use a shift linkage from a 90-93 teg, but not 94-01. it would still have to be cut, shortened, and welded back together though to fit properly. otherwise just purchase linkages designed for a b-series into ed/ef chassis.
If you can get an engine for a reasonable price from an autowrecker, and some kind of warranty with it, then go for it. you can't use stock b-series mounts, you must use mounts specifically designed to drop a b engine into a ed/ef. You will also need to use the b-series header and downpipe. it won't match up to your stock cat though due to the bolt holes not lining up. so you'll either have to cut and weld the cat, or get an omni/blox adjustable test pipe.

Re: B18 questions.
so i can use 94-01 axles and intermediate shaft, but i gotta buy shift linkage and mounts...
ok. that makes sense.
i am just trying to compile a list of things to get. just the basics by the way.
- motor (b18b1)
- obd0 to obd1 harness
- mounts
- shift linkage
- axles, intermediate shaft
- header + downpipe
is that it? really? for the basics? oh, and an ECU... what works best really? the integra one?
ok. that makes sense.

"quote from D16SiHatch"
this is what you'll need
-90-93 Integra axles, 94+ pass axle abs,non-abs,auto,manual will also work
-90-93 integra MANUAL intermediate shaft
-obd0 to obd1 Ecu conversion harness w/ subharness
-obd0 to obd1 dizzy adapter, if you didnt get one with thee above
-DA throttle cable
-shift linkages (hasport, avid, innovative, ebay)
-Motor mounts (see above^)
-90-93 integra rear transmission bracket, must be from a manual

Re: B18 questions.
if you get a obd0 b18a1
you wont need to do any wiring stuff
just plugs up
but i prefer the obd1 swap. jumper harness for like 100
and all you have to do is wire the four 02 wires.
also you will have to beat down the front mount ears
and be running no front mount
you will need the clutch and flywheel setup to match the b series trans
you will need to have da or ef-si hubs to match axles
