Default B16A Knock sensor

About to drop a B16a in my 89 hatch, but the engine that im buying doesnt have a knock sensor and it throws a CEL. How essential is a knock sensor? What do they cost? Where can I get one?

They aren't essential but the ecu you have needs one to not throw a CEL. Your options are to find one in the classifieds or one from a dealer. I am not sure if the thread pitch is the same on newer sensors but you will need to rewire the connector if an OBD1 or OBD2 sensor threads into the block. You can also have the ecu chipped so it doesn't look for the knock sensor.
