Default B16? or SOHC V-TEC head on D-Series?

What do you think? I know one is a lot cheaper than the other, but what about durability comparisons, and ease of install? Oh yeah and of course, POWER, I'm still relatively new to the CRX scene, I have a 89 Si, I just want some ideas for this summer and next fall, I might be going to Torrence to work for Honda, so since I'll be in the middle of the thing, just want some ideas...

Yeah, the head swap is much cheaper, but if you do it right, it STILL ends up costing a pretty penny.

Head gasket, head bolts, distributor, wiring, VTEC controller, timing belt, plugs, plug wires, and of course - the head.

You could end up spending $400-500 ........ for 125-130 hp and not as much potential.

B16 without a doubt. To do a head swap properly costs a good amount of money and if it isn't done correctly then it is going to give you problems down the road. If you were really set on the sohc vtec, i would just drop the whole longblock into your car.

I still think the B16 is the best as well, i just saw a SOHC on ebay for like 150, with the VTEC solinoid, but my only other problem is I can't seem to find exact directions anywhere for what I need and what to do, any help is welcome, it won't be for a while,(money shortage) but when i do I'd like to be well versed in the process

Depends how your money flow goes.
Some like the high reving power B16 which can be costly when you do it right
But some like the torquey D16 which is cheaper but with less power.

whatever tickle da pickle man.

im a B cup man... some like D cups..

Well the only thing I would say to take into account is the fact that for a b16 you will need to buy motor mounts. Arent they around 500 bucks for place/hasport mount kit??????

Anyways it's not going to be free whatever you do, so you have to decide how much you want to commit.

Davens had done the mini-me swap with a6 intake/exhaust manifold and a zdyne gold secu. IT was putting out just a few 1-3 hp more than a crx si at 108hp. Granted his torque numbers were better than the si. Would you like to spend 500 for a few horses and a little bit of torque?????

If you want to see the true potential of the mini-me, use the sohc vtec intake/exhaust manifolds as they were designed for that head. Also use the correct ecu. It will make all the difference.

PSUCRX....
I know what you mean, the honda hybrid how to for the sohc vtec swap is very limited in what they explain. I recently did the migration of a y8 into my crx, so I am going to come up with a how to that explains more than drop the motor in, wire it up and whala. By no means am I a honda expert, but I have done the complete swap installing the y8 motor, y8 intake manifold and y8 exhaust manifold. I installed the obd2 motor, with an obd1 ecu into a non-obd vehicle with limited knowledge of honda car engines. (bikes are another story )

if you are interested there is a complete y8 swap with aem pulleys, aem intake, aem camgear etc. on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...515606&r=0&t=0

and another complete engine/tranny combo without a distributor. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...611312&r=0&t=0

They are going for pretty cheap right now

Good luck
