Default b16 in a crx

im sure you guys are a bit over questions about b16 in a crx, but i did a search and couldnt find out a few things. this is for a 88 crx.
1) not really sure what b16 to use b16a, b16a1, b16a2? also why use that year engine?
2) the only difference i can really tell between these engines are the trannys, but cant any b tranny bolt up to any b engine?

i think thats it can somebody shed some light on this for me thanks,
Keith

B16A1 is the cheapest/easiest option to use. It has the proper tranny mount locations to use a hasport mount kit, and the A1's cost considerably less than any other B16.

also the b16a1 is a first gen you can tell by looking at the head also not any bseries tranny bolts up you need a cable b series tranny.

If i were you, Id definatly put a b16a1 in your rex. Its not to expensive, and its the ideal motor for your car. Plus you'll run high 13's or low 14's

Use the b16a because there is no b16a1 and the b16a2/3 can be a pain to put into a non-obd car. It is just much easier to use the b16a.

Ok now what about being smog legal?

It doesn't seem that hard to change the car to obd1 car (witch I believe the b16a2 is) its seems all I have to do is change the ECU the distributor and injectors.

As for the tranny issue anybody have any ideas on that?

i was thinking about using a b16a2 (from the del sol) and getting the mount kit from hasport. running it as a obd1 with ECU and injectors and distributor then using a cable tranny on it. what do you guys think im know im not the first to think of this.
thanks for your help so far

depends on who you buy the motor from, which motor you use, what tranny you use, what mounts you need, what extras you need, what you decide to replace, what mount kit you use. anywhere from $2000 to about $10000.

Whats different when mounting a b16a2 then a b16a1? I looks like all you really have to do is buy a different mount kit, and convert the tranny to cable.

all the b series mount the same, the diff is the deck height to see if your valve cover bangs on the hood frame. you cant just get any tranny, you have to get a cable tranny unless you have more money to throw.
b16a2 is from usdm del sol vtec and 99-00 si.
b16a is from jdm 1st gen SiR and XSi. non-obd

someone correct me if im wrong.

go with the b16a2 cause it is the engine out of the 92-95 civics and the have more power than the b16sir1,and will not have as many problems...
