Default B16 B18C header fit B18B?

I currently have an 89 Si with a 96 B18B which has a stock header, I'm looking to upgrade to a 4-1 but can't find a 4-1 for my B18B so I was wondering... Will a b16 or b18c header fit? Thanks

Most any b series headers can be used. Just be careful on B16A applications, as that engine has a shorter block and some headers just clear the oil pan. Any B18 header will fit no problem with the exception of having to lengthen the exhaust pipe on the collector side.

Cool, thank you. I just didn't want to buy a header and not be able to return it after I found out I couldn't use it.

All B series heads have the same exhaust manifold flange, so it will technically bolt up to all of them. However, there are other differences that might cause fitment issues when used on an application other than the B18A/B. For one, B16A's have a shorter deck height than the rest of the B series blocks, so a B18A header might sit lower than desired on a B16A. Two, the collector end of the header will be cocked one way or the other to meet up with the cat. Which way the collector flange is cocked tends to vary between different models. For instance when compared to the 99-00 Si catalytic converter, the B18B cat flanges were cocked in different directions.

Good info. I always thought that the exhaust flanges were different between a b16a and b18c1.

I just want a 4-1 header I can install on my 96 B18B, it's hard to find 4-1 headers for non-vtec b-series motors. So, if I buy one for 96+ GS-R I'll have to modify the flange to the cat?

Huh?

Anyone that distributes DC Sports parts can get you a 4-1 B18B header . . . part numbers are AHC6606 for ceramic and AHS6606 for stainless.

Miss information here! The B16A has a shorter block deck height than the P72 block found on gsr and type r engines. It's always been that way.

To further that note.....the only other engine to share the B16 block, was the B17A found in 92-93 GSR's only, that's it!

wrong dude, deetz is right.

There is a reason they sell different headstuds for b16a and b18c.

That reason: It's the deck height of the block.

Yep. Deck height for the B16A/B17 block is 7mm shorter than the B16B/B18/B20B/B20Z block.

That link was very useful thank you, DC Sports headers are very expensive, i'm going turbo in the future, not trying to spend $350 on temp headers.

DC header expensive? Comedy.

If you're going to turbocharge, why buy a header at all? Just a pointless waste of money. Put that money aside to save for turbo parts.

Because my oem header has a huge *** hole, and I don't see it being worth it to weld the rusty header. Sorry I don't make all the money you do to be able to spend $350 like it's all good.

this isn't me flaming or anything but you don't have money to buy one of the cheapest headers out there, but you're going turbo in the near future??? How are you gonna afford a turbo setup if you can't even afford a header? again not flaming on your financial situation cause i'm broke as well but your ideas didn't sound very logical.

i'm getting a hook up on the turbo parts, my friends selling his car but taking the turbo off of it and selling it NA. as far as my financial situation goes i'm broke because for once decided to do the right thing and get rid of all of my bills instead of buying car parts like i usually do. oh well... here comes good credit! btw JVT and Megan headers are cheaper.

I know there are cheaper ones out there but I was just saying in general it is ONE of the cheapest, not the cheapest. And I'm in the same boat as you as far as paying bills/buying parts responsibilities, lol. I've been catching up for the past year, haha. Hopefully later this year I'll be able to start spending money on my car again.

Huh.
Goin' through your exact same predicament--- but my 4-1 header bottom tubes are SMASHED down to about 1/2 the original size... IMO---ABSOLUTELY DO NOT go with a B18--- you will have even LESS ground clearance, Clarence.

I am waiting for the cheapie ebay header sellers to open tomorrow and ask their advice....

I really like the 4-2-1 style as the 4 pipes are FLAT coming under the motor giving the best clearance... But I need to find one for a B16 as well...

If your car is lowered you WILL bottom out the B18 header--- and is sucks when you do.

Keep posting!

cheers for the info.. do you know if the b16 1 section will be shorter than the b18's and then i could possibly just bolt the b18's 4 section onto the b16's 1 section could this work?
