Default B or K swap

Hello, I am still researching which engine to switch to and just wondering your opinions. I was set on a B18C type R but could still be convinced of something else. I have been researching and now wondering if a K swap is a better option. Now I understand the K would have more potential, but is it worth the extra cost? I still need to decide which K engine would be optimal but researching that as well. I believe a K would be $2,000 or so more by the time I get different mounts, harness, and other K specific needs.

I currently have a b20 swap so changing to the b18C5 would be much easier. But is it worth it to do some extra work and go straight to a k instead? I have also heard a K has fitment issues in the EF so might need a new hood and some other things to fit. I just started looking into K's but if you have any insight I appreciate it.

I want to go k too, but b is a simple engine change and a tune. K swap is new mounts, exhaust, wiring harness, ecu+tune, axles plus much more. Im sticking with b for that reason.

Yes exactly! Just need to decide how bad I want it lol. I thought 300hp would be incredibly fun, but now wondering if that is enough honestly. 300hp wouldn't be too hard out of the B18 and sounds fairly reliable. However it seems like a K series will do 400hp at that same reliability. I believe at 400hp you really enter true fast car territory. I'm ok with the build taking a longer time to complete so its a tough decision.

Turbo the b18 until it blows then repeat. Or build one. Either way you sre in the power adder territory, just stick with b unless money isnt a problem. Id go k if money wasnt an issue.

Yes I love LKQ! They have two locations in the Denver metro. I have been to both a few times to snag parts. I wasn't sure how much they would charge for a complete motor and that does sound very cheap actually.

What’s interesting is you can turbo a stock K to make 400, but for the B to make that power you need a built bottom end. So you might be pretty close cost wise taking either platform to that power level.

But, the B is a proven formula that’s been done a million times in an ef. The K not so much, so you’re going to have more obstacles and more time into it.

Is it worth the “cool” factor and being different though?
